MBAs have flooded the market it’s losing its value. Experience is more valuable than the degree

I know I am a little cynical and this will come off as mean, but isn't an MBA just a way for (possibly already well connected) people to buy a bigger network? Like every MBA program I've seen (from the outside) is just a big fat happy hour where people drink and party together and maybe learn a couple things about case studies and modeling. Idk someone once sold me on the idea that being a lawyer gave you all the core skills you needed in business (critical thinking, negotiation, communication, etc.) so why get an MBA too?

One way to move to business is go in house in a business facing role like product counsel. Then you can transition to being a product manager. It happens here all the time at least.

Also you go Amazon 1. POC... brave and shockingly unique in biglaw. You slay.

Thanks y’all, this was excellent and meaningful food for thought. Much appreciated.

Have you considered whether you might just not like BigLaw or where you currently work? Maybe try a boutique firm before giving the law up entirely.

This is true. I actually like my firm a lot and couldn’t see myself going elsewhere in law. Which makes me half think I should stay put and half think that I should seek out opps in other industries. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MBA can give credibility and an access to alumni networks. While a JD is great for lawyers some in the business world are intimidated by the degree and don't believe that it will translate in business. Is there a specific area in business you want to go-- for example if you work in marketing/advertising the mba is a huge help to get standing to move into a clientside role as many if not all brand managers etc all have mbas. Same with CEOs many are mba holders. Also putting it out there mba programs often have a huge emphasis on group exercises for case studies etc. If you don't work well in that environment it may be challenging (totally opposite from law school emphasis).

Serious question. I started developing symptoms of covid last Friday. This included fatigue which worsened last Saturday. The next couple of days it got better but I started to develop cold symptoms such as runny nose, phlegm, and nasal congestion around Tuesday. I finally tested on Wednesday and came out positive. It’s been over a week since my first symptom, but I’m not sure when to test again to see if I am positive.
