Has anyone considered joining a private social club (e.g., Union Club, University Club, City Club)? If so why are the pros you’ve found and if you considered and decided against, why?

Pre covid they were great! Networking, working from there, drinks, etc. Hard to justify when you can’t do that now as it is expensive.

Yep! I just finished touring a few and in the process of deciding which to one to choose. I moved to anew city just before covid and it seems like a good way to network and socialize, for one. Amenities: pool, tennis, golf, gym, events, restaurants... all good stuff. We likely are joining a club that has a country club and city club so I can bring clients downtown or out to the country club. Or to pop into before we go out somewhere downtown. There’s a ton of amenities, too many to list, but just request information to see what else they offer. They are great for when you want to go out but don’t want to go downtown or get into the bar scene.

I am not but my dad is at a few. Pros: network, cheap rooms relative to hotels, reciprocity allows you to save when you travel to other cities and see interesting side of new places, typically relaxing (drinking at one is a mix of being at home and out to a bar), if your job requires entertaining (precovid) it’s an easy Way to meet monthly minimum. Cons: expensive, not diverse, typically older member population, food is good but not exciting

Union Club is nice, was a member for about 8 years. Only ended my membership because I moved

Anyone join soho clubs? Curious on feedback on them. Not a ton in the US but seems super hip compared to the likes of the union league
