Has anyone considered leaving brand side to go back to agency? I'm feeling limited in the projects I've gotten to work on. I know my WLB would take a hit but I'm energized more by the creative process

NEVER. The work is fun, but if you’re not interested in running agency operations, there’s not a ton of runway and you’ll have to pivot. Plus, agency cultures tend to favor cliques, lack transparency in pay & bonus structures, and generally lack WLB. After 10 years working on agency side, I can safely say I will never go back. I work with them regularly on the brand side now and feel like I get to experience all of the fun parts without the drama.

Which brand are you at? I’m more interested in going agency -> brand.

My hesitation is that in-house opportunities don’t seem to be creatively as exciting.

Have you considered taking the lead in pro-active projects to keep your creative chops sharp?

I’ve had this problem too in the past. Determine if you’re comfortable with the pace of an agency. Don’t just do it for the different creative projects. If you want more creative projects, creative them. Do personal projects or make some time for freelance work. Hope this helps🤍

🙋 if you go to the right agency it’s great.

How about some freelance work?

I would say this personally - the agency life was NOT fun and I'm so glad I'm not trying to juggle a million different clients

no

I’m also considering a similar move. Tired of working on social and other remedial types of projects. I’ve never been agency side and I feel like i’m starting to not learn as much in my position. Agency life could be too crazy, but might as well try, right?

It is indeed better to be working with an agency. You have to figure out what your priorities are. If you want to gain something then you have to give up one thing.

Not even a little. I would see if you can expand the types of projects you get to contribute to. I find my brand side work much more rewarding on the whole: more control, get to see things through beginning to end, see the results, see the internal enthusiasm, etc. But my portfolio is quite broad, and I can imagine if it were narrower, I would be frustrated.

In 2020 I made a few huge changes, I left my world of fashion/sales, retail operations and L&D and I moved countries and eventually found my way to Tech. I currently am in Sales Enablement, which I do love, but I want to grow.

How do I continue to grow in L&D/Sales enablement in tech?

Would love some insight, and also would need some help adjusting my resume to fit the tech landscape.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.

I just spoke with a software architect that went back to school to learn software engineering after law school because it was more lucrative and had less hours. He’s worked his way up and has the skills and authority to work 6:30am-10am and gets to work remotely. We discussed that results/outputs is better than billable time like in law and public accounting. Yet, his parents and others would view him as “lazy” but he does his job and makes a fantastic living. Time>Money and Results>Hours
