I know of colleagues who have used FMLA - I personally needed to take two weeks off last year when a medication change really pushed me into uncomfortable levels of anxiety/depression. I used PTO for near term and over the course of those two weeks my medication change rebalanced and I made the decision to come back but we were exploring short term disability and other options too. If you feel comfortable talking to your manager about it, you can go that route (which is what I did) - if not, I would look into if your organization has an Employee Assistance Program where they will be able to answer any and all questions / provide options (and provide more anonymity). Give yourself some space and time to work through things - you got this!

My therapist doesn’t do FMLA/disability forms for objectivity reasons, and a psychiatrist I saw wanted me to try medication first — but I feel pretty strongly against taking an antidepressant (months-long commitment) because of a job

I’ll probably just do regular leave then...

When submitting resignation do you pro rate the number of holiday days you would have accrued? I have leave booked around time of resignation (of which 5 days is PY roll over) so wondering if I can add an additional 2 days leave to the date from which I'm counting back 30 days from ie 20 days normal notice 5 days PTO (starts Thursday) puts me 27 days post submitting notice (wed). Could I add 27/365x 25 day holiday allowance = 2 extra days of leave I can add.

What would you do if you didn’t need money? I have a fair amount coming one day and don’t actually need to work to live a good life (middle / upper-middle class). I work because of this vague notion of “ambition” and because everyone I grew up around is highly competitive and hard driving. I’ve gone to a therapist 3 times now, and I am unsure if this is the right therapist for me. I’m not sure how therapy is supposed to work as this is my first time, but it feels like she never really has much of an agenda to work through with me and I kind of run the appointment. I don’t mind doing a lot of talking but it almost feels like I’m just paying a lot of money to vent to someone, as she really just listens rather than giving me helpful advice or doing exercises with me. Is this normal?
