Has anyone dealt with a company where it’s mostly white males in leadership and you brought into make changes but leadership doesn’t let you into the so called “boys club”? And how do you handle that? They constantly undermine your ability to do your job and make decisions and complain to higher leadership that your just a kid not able to actually help them? Especially when all your doing is helping them but they break laws and make terrible decisions with HR related activities?

You have to learn to speak their language. What drives them? $$$? Great. How much in liability and risk are they facing with their decisions in fines. How likely will they face that scenario based on past behaviors or similar scenarios elsewhere.

It’s a long game, and balancing diplomatic correctness, with emotional intelligence and respect is no easy task - but you can do it!

This reminds me of the Boys Club episode of Parks and Recreation lol. But in all seriousness, start acting like an older white man. Assume everyone in the room is already listening to what you're saying. Set one to one's with men who have complained about you and ask how you can better work together. BE CONFIDENT. If people are breaking laws, thats when you have to come to a decision about whether or not it's a good idea to keep working there. You can't force people to stay inside the law, but don't end up complicit either.

Just be consistent with your job. Working with self-centered and self-rightious people is exhausting but challenging. Just make a choice after if you can no longer stand their behavior. A lot of company would love to have you.

You can only do as much as you're empowered to do. If you're in a position to, figure out who the actual decision maker is and have a candid conversation about how you can be effective there. Some changes need to come from the top down, if they're pushing back it really might just be because leadership expects/allows or even wants them to. Until you figure out if that's the case or not I'm not sure what more you can do.

Yes. This happens ALLLLL the time. It has been like that almost everywhere I worked.

Hi everyone, I need advice. I currently manage a small team of my own AM ICs. I also managed another team while their manager was on leave.

The manager recently returned & took their team back- their style is more dictating and “do as I say” and not very player/coach or collaborative (like mine) . Their team keeps coming to me for advice and complaints about their manager- they are having a tough time working with them. I have encouraged the ICs to escalate to leadership - what would you do ?

Mysteriously, every time I’m working in there, they also decide to join in and watch and watch me work. It’s so awkward and peak micromanager level stuff. WTF is going on?

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?
