A financial advisor could do a relatively simple analysis to come up with present day value of that pension. That would at least allow you to do an apples to apples comparison. Very likely when you discount the cash flows, you could come out ahead. Pension policies also can change if he hasnt yet qualified, and he could lose his job

Hi OP, Short answer is yes. I’m super impressed what the right financial advisor can do and I have several degrees in related disciplines. Caveat that Its super plan specific- generally pension plans require a decade or more of service. To me, being a top employer in a niche field is a much better reason than a pension with one year of work towards

A good financial adviser can absolutely do all those things for you. The most important thing for you to do is to do your research and finding someone whose services, expertise, and resources match what you're looking for. Just like any other service you would pay for.

My husband and I (both 27) max out our Roth IRAs each year, have a complete emergency fund, and I’m able to start maxing my 401K this year (he contributes 10% to his 401K - it isn’t possible for him to max his based on his current pay). We contribute 18% extra towards principal on our mortgage each month. We now have about $20k of additional savings we want to figure out what to do with.
