Has anyone decided to take an indefinite leave of absence post birth of baby? I’m starting to consider it because I just don’t want to be stuck in day long meetings during precious moments I could be having with my newborn. My sister in law did this. She fell in love with the homemaker role, and there's nothing wrong with it! If you have the financial health to not work, there's nothing wrong with it.

May also consider part time or independent work to keep the resume buffered if you think you might want to return. But don't let society pressure you either way.

5 months into my leave I called my partner and added an additional 3 unpaid months- something to consider!

I’ve had two kids and never lasted to the end of my maternity leave, I’ve always gone back a couple weeks early. I love being a mom more than I ever thought possible, but being home all day with a baby is not for me.

Has your baby been born yet? Do you need to decide in advance? Id wait to see how you feel as your maternity runs out. D offers 16 weeks fully paid, plus combined with FMLA and 4-6 weeks of PTO, most can spend ~7 months home with baby. With a flex remote model and less travel in future, it’s not bad.

Not born yet. Yes I need to at least plan for what could happen if I exit working for a while - what resources I might need/lose. But I know it can be hard to make that decision up front and I could totally change my mind. Good point. I do not have that level of flexibility where I am in terms of generous paid leave options. Definitely going to leverage PTO.

Wait until it’s time to go back before making any decisions, and even then propose just extending as unpaid mat leave to retain optionality.

Alternative career options to go into after being in FSO Tax? Currently a S1 making 95k. Long term I don’t think I can do the long hours with the low pay. With starting a family in the next 2-3yrs, I would like to make enough so my wife doesn’t have to work when we have a kid. Prob will need $200k min. Considering going into anything else that will pay me a higher salary, I’m ok with long hours if the pay is justified. It doesn’t have to be accounting related. Thanks for all your suggestions.

The best decision I made towards my FIRE goal was to move from Europe to the US. I did so at 31 with a NW of $300k. I was telling our Solution Arch, that I don't think I'm needed for the next phase, also because my bill rate might be too high for this phase. Do I have a drinking problem? I live alone. I cannot wait for wine at 6. I work my ass off sober 12 hrs a day. Then I drain 2 bottles of wine. I wake up parched and confused and do it again. Anyone else experience hot flashes as a result of the vaccine? Never had them before but now when I get my period, sometimes I have it as a PMS side effect. I’m only 28 and it’s soooo uncomfortable. I now deeply empathize with my mom when she was menopausal and used to complain when I was little but I would dismiss her as I was cold. It seems like the only relief is hormone therapy (which is only appropriate for menopausal women). Anyone have another remedy that has worked?

Have y’all ever had a painless period but for a longer duration? Like 7 days? I didn’t get my period for 3 months but now I got it and it’s like day 6 or something. I mean I am not bleeding like crazy but it’s not light either. Also, no pain which I am very thankful for.
