I did a top 5 MBA. The people who I know who did a JD/Mba seemed very confused. At the end of the day, you can only use one for your profession. If you want to be a lawyer, just get the JD and over time, you can go into business if that’s what you choose. And if you don’t want to be a lawyer, there’s no reason to get a JD. That’s my two cents. People are either confused or status obsessed when they get both
It’s about benefits vs. costs.
If the JD/MBA combo isn’t going to cost you much more than getting either degree alone, then get it, 100%.
But if you will have to add on extra high cost debt, really weigh the benefits vs. costs. You can become an in-house counsel and do well without an MBA and extra debt.
That’s all I’m saying to consider. Don’t add on extra debt due to false notions of benefits or insecurity.
I did and MBA and am getting ready to begin law school.
IMO there’s no clear blueprint when it comes to this path. You need to have a clear idea of how you plan to use both degrees together. And yes, part of the reason I’m doing the JD is for status, not gonna lie.
