Cons are that the owners need to be trained in addition to the dogs. You need to learn to change your behavior too in addition to your pup learning how to behave
Came here to say this. 1 on 1 training with a private trainer (they can come to your home) is a good option.
Do your research. Boarding schools can be a good option, but you don’t know what they’re really doing or how they’re treating the animals. I knew someone who sent their dog to a boarding school and the dog came back super traumatized.
For dogs, kids or spouses?
I’d like to send kids + spouse to boarding school for behavior sometimes… oh well, you can dream, right? 😂
I had a horrible experience with dog boarding school. Never again!
Sent a hunting dog to boarding for 6 months when he was a puppy. One of the most well behaved dogs ever. But still one of the sweetest and most cuddly and could be goofy and rough house when appropriate
6 months. Damn that must have been expensive.
1-1 lessons with a trainer that include you and your dog are essential. You need to learn how to shape the behaviors you want. Any trainer telling you differently doesn’t have long term best interest in mind. We had a great experience with positive, fear free, for a v. smart and therefore manipulative puppy!
