As an experienced manager I'd say you'd be high 60s in sterling. Which translates to high 80s in USD. When the exchange rate was better, that would've been more like 105k US. It will go just as far as it used to in the UK, but seems super low compared to the US, not good if you are sending money back for student loans and such. Brexit caused a pretty big drop in the exchange rate and its never recovered.

What's your level and service line? Salary isn't going to be great compared to the US right not because the pound is so low. It's an excellent location for traveling around Europe. Health care is 'free' sort of, you'll pay for it in taxes, and because it's free for everyone it's also not very good. Schools will vary based the area you live, you'll want to be west.

I didn't have kids, but I can imagine it would be very hard. Most people share their flat even at the manager level just to be able to afford something in a decent area within an hour of the office. So I can't imagine how much it would cost to pay for a place with enough room for a family. Also with kids it'd be even more important to live in a safe place. I'd imagine your commute would be an hour and a half plus using public transportation. You'd also be in the 40% marginal tax bracket, with no special benefits for being married or having kids.

I don't mean to sound discouraging, London was an amazing experience, but it's better to do it when you're still young a single. One of the main reasons I came back to the US was because I wanted to settle down and start a family and I didn't see London as the best place to do it. Who knows maybe you can work out a sweat deal were you can keep your salary comparable to the US and get company paid housing, it just wasn't my experience.

Manager and IT AUdit and assurance...how bad is the salary?

Ugh that is bad..currently over 100k mark with raise to come so that would be a step back..don't have any major loans outside mortgage which should be covered by renting out our home..guess decision would be the the experience over the money..did you have kids with you and if so how was their experience?

Thanks KPMG 1...your insight is very helpful...I will see how it pans out since am at beginning stages of the discussions..
