A recruited asked to chat over the phone to discuss my emailed counter offer. I countered at $75k even though their top of the salary range was $68k. I have my reasons for countering, including increased out of pocket expenses for benefits and overall experience I bring to the table. What can I expect from the call?

Am I the only one that runs into this? Halfway into an interview it’s apparent you know the role better than the hiring manager does. As soon as this happens I always feel like I am wasting my time because I know they’re likely going to look for a less experienced candidate. Unfortunately I don’t have the years of experience for senior manager/director roles so it seems I run into this very often for manager level roles.

I started at Amazon 6 months ago from consulting and I’m definitely performing under expectations. I don’t like the role since it’s too technical and I spend too much time coding. Every 1:1 with my manager is spent discussing my “progress” on projects, “training” I should be taking or “creating plans and lessons learned” to improve but I just don’t care. I am actively interviewing elsewhere anyways. Am I about to be put on a PIP?

I’ve been an associate at a four lawyer firm for seven years. My boss who founded the firm and who is nearing retirement has repeatedly told me she intends to leave me the business but we haven’t had any in depth discussions about it. I’m trying to figure out if “leaving me the business” means selling it to me or just gifting it to me. Any insights/thoughts about what she likely means?

Looking for advice on what to do with clients if I want to go in-house. We have 5 other attorneys so as of now my clients could likely be absorbed into the rest of the law firm. However if 1-2 of the attorneys here left that wouldn’t be an option. Has anyone done this and have tips?I don’t have an offer yet but I’m trying to prepare. My firm knows I’m exploring this as a career option.

TL;DR: having trouble fitting in with the rest of the attorneys in my firm being super young compared to the rest of them. Not sure how to navigate.

Just started in June at a small firm where I’m the 7th attorney. I’m a K-JD and just passed the bar in August (🥳), making this my first real law job. The next associate is 10 years older than me. Everyone has spouses and at least one kid. All they talk about is said spouses and kids. I have none of that. Being social w/them is super hard. Help?

Small firm owners need pov! Some good news after almost 11 months of applying and interviews and lots of rejections finally got an offer! In NYC small firm, ex big law folks, no billable hours, niche practice area, appearance of forwarded thinking firm, remote till who knows when, emphasis on pro bono initiatives and building book of business. The catch salary. Was making around 140k at last firm with 1800 billable. Offer is 85k and revist to bump to around 100k in several months after review

How far do you live from your office / where you practice? I’m a solo with a land use / zoning practice. I’ve always lived in the same city I worked. So I'm finally doing it, I'm starting my own firm in the next couple months.

Questions about conflicts of interest going forward. Any suggestions for an organizational/organization expert, coach, or someone that helps with getting firms organized? We need to be more efficient and have better systems in place.

Brief problem: We feel that we (partners) are unorganized, and as a result our staff is following the same disorganized structure and we’re not getting as much work/tasks completed as we should.

I need someone to help whip us into shape.
