I’m an estate planning attorney and my recommendation here is the same anytime a lawyer wants to act pro se—never, as an attorney, represent yourself. Seek guidance from a professional.

Well, good luck. There are cost-effective firms that work with clients remotely, that may be a good option.

I would not suggest legal zoom. I think Quicken came out with a program/software that looked pretty legit but I haven’t used it. Be careful of who ever you send the folks to as all T&E attorneys are not created equal!

Hi everyone! First time using this app. I always wondered, how are other IT help desk jobs? I’ll share how mine is.
I work at an MSP (Managed Service Provider) meaning we are the IT services for many other companies. It’s busy all the time and I get to experience all different types of apps, OSes, and almost every aspect of IT in this way. I make around 50k which is alright but its hectic as there’s too many tickets and not enough personnel. I heard this is common but I’m not sure.

Exited from a T2 strategy firm ~1.5 years ago. Made sure I didn't come in hot and played nice cross-functionally. I finally got opportunities to work on some high-viz / big impact initiatives. Got frustrated at how slowly a team was moving and they were becoming a huge blocker. I started doing their work for them and sharing it with them as "my initial perspective for your consideration as you form your recommendation." They still were an obstacle so I got bossy. Now that team wants to poach me

Want to get the perspective of younger attorneys. We’re a 4-attorney firm (2 partners, one associate, one OC) looking to add a 5th attorney. I left a mid-sized litigation firm on the East Coast where I was a partner to open my own firm. Decision was driven by quality of life. We are a civil lit firm. We don’t have billing requirements per se. We have expectations, but we’re reasonable - big on flexibility & quality of life. What are young associates looking for when evaluating job opportunities?

Hey Everyone!

Next Thursday, 1/27, we'll be having a live text-based Q&A in here all day with Tony Thai, CEO of Hyperdraft, on exiting Big Law.

Any and all questions are welcome regarding leaving Big Law to go in-house or non-traditional, starting your own venture, avoiding burnout, or really anything you want to ask!

A thread will be dropped in the morning, and close at the end of the workday. Tony will be available and popping in all day to answer your questions.

Cheers,

Team Fishbowl

Any advice for a junior lawyer trying to move from litigation to corporate? My firm is in a unique situation in that the associates working in corporate have largely left (for explainable reasons) or are on leave, the partners know that they need more associates doing this work, and they’re willing to train me, but as a second year lawyer who’s been doing almost exclusively litigation, the learning curve seems SO steep. I badly want out of litigation and I’d love to jump on this!

Also, assuming I get the position, I would still like to send the recruiter a thank you gift for her hard work even though it didn’t lead to a position. What amount for the gift?
