I think it’s just associated with age. A lot of people get married when they hit senior consultant level and then have kids around manager/SM level.
I haven’t run across a lot of LGBT Senior Managers let alone PPEDs at EY. A lot of that is probably due to those leadership roles being a political and social bubble to pierce that has a lot of hetero norms.
Also, isn’t the lack of LGBT SM/PPED probably a reflection of reality in that there are very few LGBT people in the world? On top of it, consulting isn’t a career choice that many LGBT gravitate towards. In addition, some people are closeted. What’s more, everyone doesn’t conform to a certain stereotype, e.g. many of us can pass for straight. Put all these together and I believe that’s why we don’t see that many LGBT at these ranks.
I haven’t noticed this, but I have noticed that almost everyone in level 3+ positions has kids. Which is weird to me, because it seems like taking on management responsibilities at work doesn’t mesh well with having to take care of a human life? But I guess if you get paid management $$$ then daycare is less financially prohibitive.
I think it’s just age, like ey1 says. The straights are, well, generally more fecund than we are and I think we underestimate that extent sometimes
My mom told me my dad was promoted right after she had me and prior to that, my brother
You are projecting
Damn I need to have a kid
As far as anybody around me knows, I’m married to a woman and have an adult son who I’m very close to.
In reality, I’m married to a woman and we share her live-in bisexual boy toy
^ what’s ur gender?
SM1: You tawkin’ ta me? Male. I’m pretty pride-y, but people assume because I talk about my wife that I’m just an ally. I found people will accept “normal” LGBT And even non-monogamy WAY better than established polycules. Bisexual polycules? Fuggedaboudit
...but to stay on-topic, my point was that you can just lie about having a kid, as long as you don’t slip up and talk about what the three of you did last Saturday night. :)
So. I just heard from an SM that they show SMs a chart with the growth path. Ms are promoted right when they have a kid.
Just found out that someone in my team is being promoted after he told people he is having a kid. He is several years younger, has no advanced degree, and no training in what our group does. (Top performer several years in a row.)
