I was told the same thing and it came to fruition on-schedule. If you’re a top performer than I’d assume they wouldn’t be bluffing. Probably a significant variance in opinions on this one.
Amazon did that to me, then tried to PIP me out when it became time. I walked away from the company and 300k of stock.
I have been filling two Director slots for about 9 months now and was told they would be adding the role in the summer. Summer got here and they told me budget is on hold for 12-24 months. So I’m looking elsewhere for a Director role.
Agree, they’re simply buying time. That’s ridiculous.
Hey worse case scenario, if you get the experience and you don’t get the promotion, that’s actual experience on a resume that you can confidently use to interview and level up at a new position
This for sure. Titles are ambiguous and arbitrary based on the company you are with. A director here might be entry level somewhere else. But having that title on your resume catches the preliminary scans. Title your roles on resume based on the work you do, not the name the company gave you
Budget is a bs excuse in my opinion. How much would a new hire cost them vs giving you a raise? I’ve seen companies promote the same people very quickly and consistently
Hmmm seems fishy. If they are giving you the management responsibilities and not paying you for them then I think they never will. You need to ask them frankly if your title has recently changed since you are now handling more and not receiving a raise.
Only time will tell. Continue to interview, but if you get a better offer before the year comes around, I’d say take it. If they valued you, they’d work to make the promotion happen sooner than later since you’re already taking on more
I was told this in 2019, and then we all know what happened 2020, but even today, no promotion. Nothing is guaranteed, so if I were you, I’d keep looking and keeping your options open.
Same boat here. We will see how it works out - I decided to stay because I really like my current situation. Lots of interesting projects, lots of flexibility and freedom. Hopefully they follow through with the promotion - otherwise I’ll start interviewing again.
I’ve had this happen twice - it ended well both times within the agreed timeframe. With this being said I’d say it’s never going to be guaranteed regardless of your performance. Shit happens, whether that’s market condition or your team’s business needs.
Depends how much you trust your team 🤷♀️
Currently there. Got the promotion, but extremely low-balled on the salary.
