Has anyone ever been the subject of a perceived disability? Do you think firms should offer some some training/awareness programs? Seems everyone gives their opinion like they’re a PsyD to start probs

These people are paid to give opinions. Asking people in consulting to have some manners and keep their mouths shut and opinions to themselves is like asking a fish not to swim. When you sleep in hotels and spend 5 days a week around coworkers only, you lose some social common sense other people assume. I quit commercial after 6 years and i can tell you the people who did commercial weekly travel into their 40s are socially inept like some corporate Darwinian experiment. Everyone, the younger ones especially, are conditioned to think they’re “experts” on things they’re not. Just look at all the arguments that take place on this app. It’s usually two 26 year old know it alls throwing their attitudes and egos at each other in an intellectual pissing contest. Usually about something super douchey and minuscule. The lack of social self-awareness amongst the people we hire is incredible. When you also consider firms in this industry do not- in any way- value empathy as a personal trait in its people, someone with a disability is highly likely to get tossed around a bit. Everyone in this profession needs to be knocked down a few pegs and stfu every once in a while.

Mimicking is a surface level thing. Like you said it’s behavioural. And it’s easy to slip and lose. But if i can’t tell the difference between someone who genuinely cares about his/her people and someone who mimics the behaviour of those who does, i guess it doesn’t make a difference

Perceived disability, when someone else thinks you have a disability, but you don’t meet the legal definition. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this happen period.

Agree with you C1. However, empathy only comes into play when you understand the feelings of someone else. That only happens when you start a conversation with the individual, otherwise you’re just speculating with management. Which in turn, indirectly (or maybe directly) causes more stress on an individual because you’re not having the right conversations to understand their full story. If you’re only speaking about their lack of fitting in due to observed behaviors to managers, directors, and partners - this raises concerns and puts special attention on someone unnecessarily. It may be they act a certain way around you because of your relationship. It can easily turn into an avalanche of problems that can ultimately be avoided if you leave your personal comments about someone at the door and stick to performance based conversations around getting the work done.

Looking at getting LASIK done and just interested in any experiences / advice / things you would’ve liked to have known? For context, I’m 27, healthy eyes, about -2 vision which I wear glasses for (contacts just do not agree with my eyes), rationale for LASIK is because I’m very athletic and I can’t work with contacts! Also figure now is a good age to do so. Disclaimer: obviously plan on 100% following medical professional guidance, but any input appreciated ! ❤️

Has anyone paid for actual coaches/is it worth it if so? Obv super expensive and I’m not necessarily a rich person, but I could probs justify it considering the simple ROI of an MBB offer and lifetime value vs some that of the other firms. Also, understandably would only consider reputable coaches with a successful track record.

My experience in digital comms is what caught eyes, so I’ll be leveraging that, but what might I otherwise speak on that’ll even the playing field between myself and others who have account/agency experience?
