Has anyone ever boomeranged? How did you get boomeranged back in? Why did you come back? Was there a big bump in pay?

I’m toying with the idea now myself (slightly different desk, at a firm I used to work at). Another member of the desk just resigned and I could be in the running for his seat. It would be a title bump and pay bump, but I’m aware of the fact that some of the underlying cultural/political issues at the company will probably still exist.

At MS in some areas this is a high risk promo strategy. People leave them come back at a higher level. Total bullshit for people who are working to get promoted but need to “meet all the boxes” or “ show all the right attributes”. Meanwhile some dude leaves and comes back in pretty much the same role but now sports a VP or ED title (amazingly they acquire all the necEssary things they need in 6 months or less). . So wrong. Who else has seen this?.

like

You would need to understand what the leave / return rules are. Interesting that at MS you can do this in 6 months.

UBS would need a year to consider the rehire as differently experienced, probably nearer two years.

Also consider some firms have a rehire cap or no rehire policy. Bloomberg will not rehire. One and done. Citi has a 3 hires cap.

It can work. You need to leave on excellent terms with senior management and excellent performance evals.

What is boomeranged

Dang

People who do this will never become very senior. History might be forgiven but it’s not forgotten. Senior guys may come back as a chairman for a few years to fill a gap, but you don’t see senior manager promotions of people like this. So think long and hard before you take that hundred k if you’re anVP - it may cost you millions as a MD

I guess Government Service would be an obvious exception you'd want to make.

Depending on who's in govt

Government and going to clients are exceptions indeed - I was thinking of going to a competitor mainly.

Anyone done EB to PE then back to EB?

I’m a 7-8ish years out director of legal at a small media company. I’ve been here about 3 years and want out, but I’m not sure whether it’s the right time considering that I don’t want to go to a giant company with tons of lawyers (I get emails from Netflix, roku, Viacom recruiters frequently). My goal job is to be the first legal hire at a media startup and eventually build out my own team. Am I too early for that?

Management offered me a new role and training for it too, but I’m moving countries very soon like in 4 months so I rejected it and offered to stay in my same role. Though even in my same role they’re giving me an increase in responsibility + pay.
Now 1 - I feel weird accepting this cause I know I’m leaving
2 - I feel bummed to have not accepted the other opportunity because I was excited for it, now I’m wondering if I made the right decision

Hi y’all! Hope this is the right bowl to post this question and get advice. I am dealing with an employer that preaches our values. The owner states that the values are important to her etc yet my manager violates these values and is involved in unethical behavior frequently. Example 1: My manager has told specialists (resourcers) that she will pay them under the table in order for her (manager) to get full credit vs splitfor the placement and therefore (barely) hit her target for the quarter.

What do you think that the education system needs to do, to get young people to be better prepared with challenges in life? For example, I grew up in Malaysia, national secondary schools had home science lessons, where we learnt from ironing to cooking to carpentry to sewing to plumbing to soldering on a circuit board where we did individually or in teams. To me, these skills altogether prepped me with a lifelong ‘Swiss Army knife’! Anyone with children with ideas?
