I did at 8 weeks. My doctor does them for everyone, and they don’t charge when rejected by insurance. I was glad we did because I found out I carry CF which no one in my family knew before, and it allowed us to know to do additional testing for my husband
Yes. I don’t like the unknown, and it was so great to know the gender so early and have a peace of mind that the baby is okay. Only caution is that I did it at 12 weeks when the risk of miscarriage had dropped dramatically. I couldn’t imagine being attached to an idea of a boy or girl and something happen. Thankfully everything was okay with my baby, but I’d ask yourself too what your reaction will be if something came back where there was a genetic abnormality. Would you still have the baby? Would you want to know so you could make an informed decision; would you keep the baby regardless? Just understanding that these tests may not give you the answer you are hoping for, and if you’re okay with that, then go for it before you hit the cut off (believe it’s 13 weeks).
^ yup! It’s a full chromosome panel.
We did NIPT at 11 weeks for both pregnancies. I wasn’t aware you could do it any earlier. I like to have all the information possible. I think it just depends on your temperament (I’m always in awe of folks who can wait a whole nine months without knowing sex!) and also whether the information would change any of your choices about carrying the pregnancy.
Got it at 10 weeks along with a panel of recommended tests for 35+. It was a great and very touching moment to find out the baby’s gender!
FYI - Under most insurance policies, if you are age 35+ at time of expected due date - these tests are usually all prescribed by doctors and fully covered by insurance.
I just did one! I’ll have the results confirmed in a few weeks with the prenatal noninvasive screening test as well. The only flaw to the home test is that you have to be very sterile and avoid “contaminating male DNA”. I was pretty paranoid about this, and brushed up my skills from graduate school to make sure the environment was unquestionably sterile 😂
I did the Sneak Peak at 8 weeks- my OB wanted me to wait until 10 weeks to get the NIPT (she said it’s more accurate at 10 weeks) and then the results are estimated to come back between 2-3 weeks
Yes.
Yes. My only regret is the way the nurse told us. She asked if we were hoping for one or the other and I said honestly a healthy baby is most important. But she kind of pressured me if we had a preference so I shared we kinda hoped it was a girl. Then she said, oh, well I’m sorry but it’s a boy. She said it in a very kind way, but it kinda sucked hearing it like that. We were still thrilled to have a healthy boy!
Awful professionalism. The only question that anyone should ask is, “do you want to know what you’re having?” With an excited reply.
I did the NIPT at around 12-14 weeks also, based on doctors orders. Miscarriages are so common before that it wasn’t advised. If you are the kind of person willing to pay out of pocket and just need to know sooner, nobody can stop you, but I don’t know if that can replace the tests your doctor orders.
It’s not that new, odd...and performing in the 2nd trimester negates part of the point.
I did! At 12 weeks tho. It wasn’t offered to me at 8 weeks. But I found out only afterward that some insurance covers it. Not all. So might want to check? I almost got stuck with a 2000 bill but luckily after 4 months my insurance company finally approved it
If you’re looking into MaterniT 21 Plus test, you can sign up for the Every Mom Pledge through Integrated Genetics and pay $299 Out of pocket if the year is is not covered through insurance. The only requirement was to complete a questionnaire via email a few weeks after the test.
