11/10 Thread (BC):
Model y ?
Hey folks, need some advise, I finished my loop for a GCP TAM role in early December and the recruiter just got back saying the feedback was positive and I need a call with the hiring manager to ensure alignment. He specifically said it’s a 30 minute conversation and not an interview, can anyone advise on what to expect, should instill treat this as a final interview? I’m assuming they’ll want to know more about my profile and what I’m looking to get from this role but anything beyond that?Google

Your experience will probably vary based on your firms specific culture and policies, as well as what practice area you are in. I remember a thread about a month or two back where lots of people were warning that they effectively took a massive pay cut yet still ended up working pretty long hours due to "client needs".

What do you think the benefit of this is? Are they actively asking you to make a decision? Not all associates make partner, that is expected and understood. But the minute you get off partner track, my sense is you become a second class citizen at the firm, associates not as senior to you may “outrank” you in a sense, partners are no longer viewing you as one of their all stars who gets plum assignments etc.
My point being, why not ride it out until/unless they force you to switch? Are they offering an hours reduction? Is this a “staff attorney” position? A “counsel” position? Still an “associate” but just not partner track?
May I ask why you'd want to switch?

Agreed. Seems like there is very little upside (in fact none) in telling them now vs waiting.
