Has anyone ever had a fundamental difference in opinion with their SO on something important to them? E.g. Getting my MBA is important to me but he sees it as a childish dream. Thoughts?

Why is it a childish dream to him? The MBA seems pretty practical if you don't go crazy in debt. I think you guys should talk about the why.

Sounds condescending. Strange to describe pursuit of higher education as childish. I would wonder if he expected his SO to cut down hours for baby-making down the line, and this was why he thought such a big investment in her career was a bad idea

like

Depending on your situation, an MBA might not be worth it; but calling it childish is odd. That's so specific.

All the time. Take it in stride. If he cares about you enough to stay with you and respect your decision (even if he's unhappy about it), I think that's alright. Everyone has disagreements, the real test is whether they'll help move things forward once you've made the decision and are doing it.

like

Sounds to me like "childish" was said in a moment of passion and wasn't fair–he should admit as much if pressed.

I could disagree with my SO but if there is a clear biz plan and value, then I would support it. That said, financially it is on them to make it work.

My wife is skeptical of my part time MBA program. Like any engagement, identify stakeholder requirements and push form prices.

It's your life, your decision. Not his. He can have his opinion - entitled to it - but you aren't living your life based on what he wants right? Go for your MBA!

With two years of consulting experience, I’m scared of looking for jobs. You may laugh at my imposter syndrome, but I developed an interview phobia. The last time I studied for case interviews was in the final semester of my MBA a bit over two years ago. After I’ve failed many interviews (cases), I got into my current job by cracking difficult cases. Now, busy with ongoing projects, I have no desire to study case interviews again. How much of practice would bring me back to proficiency? 3-4 mos?

Can somebody please explain to me why MBB and other top consulting firms are so adamant that you have an MBA? I majored in accounting, finance, and operations management at a top 10 undergrad business school and then got my masters in information systems from the grad school program. I took multiple MBA courses as electives when getting my masters and it seemed like those classes were very basic and easy. Idk if I would learn anything in an MBA program that I hadn’t already learned in undergrad

I was saving up my PTO to plan a trip to home country in December. Now the immigration team has started an immigration case so I cannot travel in December. I’ve been a nurse for 10 years in Boston. I have a few years of sales that involved a lot of travel. Looking to step away from bedside nursing and get back into sales. I’m also a bit discouraged with my earnings and the wife wants to go down in hours to spend more time with the kids. So far I’ve applied to a few Novartis jobs and the interview process has started. Is this reasonable or am I missing something? I started maxing my 401k from year 1 and I hope to have $5 million or more by the time I retire around 60. Wouldn’t it make sense to put all of my yearly $19,500 401k contribution to ROTH 401k instead of traditional 401k? My reasoning is that I would pay 35% tax now and my remaining 65% would grow tax-free in ROTH 401k…. versus traditional 401k where I deposit 100% but every distribution will be taxed 35% assuming I make a lot in retirement.
