Has anyone ever hired a career coach? Did you find it helpful? Sixth year associate in litigation, on partner track, but feel like I’m having mid-life crisis and don’t know if I want to stay or switch firms. Any recos for a coach who knows the Toronto market would be helpful too. Thanks!

Talk to someone. You are at a major inflection point. Being complacent won't be any benefit.

like

Lol don’t waste your time on a career coach - think about what you want to do and network your way into talking to those people. You will find that even if you are generally interested in someone’ experience/career people (even tangential/distant connections) are happy to talk to you about it.

Career coaches don’t do anything and anyone can be them because they sell the dream without living it.

I’ve been wrestling with similar inflection point issues and career/life decisions also at years 5-6. Been thinking about doing psilocybin therapy to see if I can work through these issues and get some clarity in life.

Coaches are great and you should explore. You do not need one in your market place or location, Zoom or phone is all you need. I can recommend a few. I was in your shoes.

Ex healthcare workers in Tech/Sales Engineering/ Healthcare consulting;
I have my masters in nursing/FNP (1 yr) making <K70 (Indiana) due to low patient census in my role. No desire for a different FNP job nor to return to bedside nursing (RN 5 yrs). I have heard of some individuals with remote positions making >K100 with little to no experience in tech or consulting after doing a boot camp or cert?
If you pivoted; What’s your current role/ Income & what did you do to complete the transition?

I live in Dayton, OH. I would love some insight or feedback. I also see Gpac recruiting popping up, is this a reputable co? Ty!

I am switching gears from immigration law, to criminal law in the coming month. This is coming after years with a small firm. No general complaints on where I am at, I just feel I have peaked here in terms of what I can do and be compensated.

The new firm has a better compensation structure and room to grow.

The point of my post is, has anyone switched fields like this? I am excited but also a little nervous the change of pace will be overwhelming at first.

I feel like I am done in the US. Not sure if this is a phase. The last time I went through this was last year. Since having hit 30, last July, I want to not just have a well-paying job but want to make sure I am having some real impact in the world. I understand that this is a privileged concept but I don’t want to hit 60 and feel this way because I feel like if I continue on the path I am on, my only impact will be helping rich people get richer. How do you get better at handling discovery? I don’t mean drafting requests or responses or staying on top of deadlines. I mean handling all the little meet and confer disputes over narrowing scope, knowing what to push back on, knowing what to and what not to agree to in a protective order. I feel like I’m awful at it and I feel incompetent for asking so many questions about what’s okay, what we can agree to, etc. I’m fairly new and have been tasked with a lot of this lately. I feel lost.
