Has anyone ever paid for a professional resume writer/reviewer? What was your experience? I keep seeing it on LinkedIn and was wondering if anyone had tried it.

If you’re looking to lateral, a good recruiter can help review your resume as part of their service before they submit your materials.

Good advice thank you.

I tried one when I was trying to move in- house about 6-7 years ago. It was an awful experience and don’t feel like it helped me or my resume at all. I will say though, I just found a general resume writer but maybe one that specializes in the legal field would be more useful.

Like A1 said, good recruiters will help with your resume, write cover letters for you, essentially do everything but the interviews themselves. I used Sarah Ciopyk to lateral recently and it was a very smooth experience. She was very available too to help with questions about the process and interviewing.

How does hourly contract lawyering work? I’m on a contract through a recruiting firm before the company hires me directly. My pay is hourly but I get time and a half for over time. I’m at a mid sized regional firm. Partner I work with only wants to do litigation but it doesn’t keep all the associates busy. So, he takes on whatever random projects come he gets calls on, but will say things like “we gotta pretend like we’ve done this a thousand times.” It makes me uncomfortable because we haven’t and it’s specialized things like doing all the filings to establish an HMO (which we don’t do). He then ghosts and we’re left trying to figure it all out. Is this normal?

My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know. Is this normal??
