Are they shady? It just seems shady to send a letter unless you were like really going crazy. Talking to a few people shouldn’t be a big deal even if it’s on the line. Seems like they have something to hide. I like a good conspiracy though.

They were scared about their job, as they should be. My friend had been laid off a few hours before I was due to low utilization so I warned others.
I personally haven’t, but I did have some coworkers at another company that had all joined around the same time from the same competitor and they all got cease and desists as a “reminder” that they weren’t supposed to poach each other. (They weren’t.)

Yeah, kinda sounds like standard operating procedure to me. The fact that you were let go yesterday and received it today (if I understood you correctly) makes me think they do this for everyone. Telling people to keep their util up is not even remotely confidential or harmful language. That’s just…business 101.
Personally, I wouldn’t respond to it. That said, I am definitely not a lawyer and am just a rando on the internet, so if you want a more professional opinion you could see if there are any employment law firms in your state that will give you a consult.
