Has anyone ever served on one of the AICPA’s tax technical committees? I was trying to gauge how much of a time commitment it would be and the work involved with serving on a committee. Any insight is appreciated!

I’ve participated in one for the past 20 years. I attend a couple of meetings a year and quarterly calls. It doesn’t take much time and is great for networking. You’ll have a bigger time commitment if you volunteer to draft a comment letter. It’s hard to find the time to work on those, but I’ve drafted several, and I find it very rewarding to have an influence on IRS guidance.

Thank you! This was really helpful.

At what experience level do you think it’s appropriate to start applying to join one of the committees or Technical Resource Panels?

Thank you, PWC1, that’s great to know. I’m about 6 years into my career, not sure I’m an expert by any means yet. But I will look into volunteering!

Maybe staying at home this long has made me more critical, but I’m struggling to maintain any suspension of disbelief with ads and tv shows. Case in point: the MB ad where the kid snuggles the dirty, grime & bug ridden toy off the front of a truck - seriously!? And don’t get me started on ‘Your Honor’ - WTF, do they not have fingerprinting in the NOPD???!! Case closed.

Given all the recent buzz about expected large raises around the big 4, I’d like to level set on the average salary for a 4th/5th year female senior manager in federal tax ( credits & methods group) in the Midwest - Chicago/Minneapolis/Detroit market. Anyone willing to share a range if they work in a similar area of tax / similar level? I recognize all groups vary greatly in salary expectations, so looking for input specific to my area. Current expectations set at 140-160k. Reasonable?

Approached by a recruiter for Siegfried Group... Is it ok to ask her what other companies/positions she’s currently recruiting for, or do recruiters prefer you only discuss the role they contacted you about? Also anyone know what the (internal) referral bonus is for someone who brings a senior associate into Siegfried?

I’m new to consulting. Spent my entire career in industry where I worked on a closely knit team. My work style is to befriend my coworkers not only because I like to work with my friends, but also so I don’t feel bad when I call them on their sh** for not pulling their weight. I am the fulcrum and counterweight combined. I now find myself being taken advantage of and am too uncomfortable to confront slackers on an 18mo project. How do I find balance?
