Many #machinelearning algorithms, whether supervised or unsupervised, make use of distance measures.
Take k-NN for example, a technique often used for supervised learning. As a default, it often uses euclidean distance.
By itself, a great distance measure.
Knowing when to use which distance measure can help you go from a poor classifier to an accurate model.

I do think about it. But I have not been motivated enough to leave the classroom. I teach students with autism. It is both challenging and rewarding
I'm guessing most of us have. I left after 5 years. About 6 years later, I went back. It's just who I am. This career affords me endless creativity in a supportive work environment (even though the kids can be a pain in the rear - and sometimes parents ate the same). I'm 60 and wondering if I will actually want to retire soon.
But there are a lot of very happy former teachers out there. Keep your options open.
Of course but it is only due to financial reasons I love the students and teaching however throughout the years I’ve had furlough days and other ways to cut budgets. Not cool at all when other professions and jobs make more than we do and can be less stressful .
YES—-generally right in the middle of an 8th grade class!!!😂😂
I’m going to have to. I had a bulging disc in September 2017 and went through months of pain meds and PT, only for two students to be playing around and pushing each other and have one shoved into my back. That herniated the disc and to date I have had 2 surgeries, last one in January. I may have to go in and get a fusion of the vertebrae. Either way, while the pain isn’t at a 20 anymore, it’s too high to be up and around a classroom...or anywhere else for that matter. I can’t even set the microwave and stand there to wait for it to finish.
I don’t know, honestly. Part of it is GA has ruined my love for teaching; the other part is that I get so tired so easily. When I eat, after 20 minutes, I have to sleep because I feel like lead. And when I sleep, it’s for like, 4 to 5 hours.
I do but I also think you can do both. I teach high school but I’m also a yoga teacher and a wellness life coach. I find supporting teachers reignites my passion for teaching. Let me know how I can support you!
No.
I had a Navy Career first, just completed my 20th year teaching. It has been very satisfying. Go for it, but return to teaching to share your experience.
If I ever leave the classroom it will be to become a behavior specialist.
I've thought about it....then I realize I don't have anything else I can do. Should've done a minor in college. 😂😂😂
Thanks! I had some years where I was frustrated with the profession, but there was a blessing on the other side of the struggle. 🙌🏾
if I left the profession it would only be to travel or maybe teach at an international school in a different country.
You bet I have. This will be my 32nd year teaching in the same district. Try a new job within the district. I worked 18 years as a k-5 teacher. I decided to become a gifted teacher and enjoy it. Try something different
