What are you looking to solve? I wouldn't discount the idea entirely but I definitely think a lot of them have no qualifications or structure to providing help.
I'm looking for help in figuring out how to bring together my skills, passions, and what the world needs, as well as someone to bounce ideas off of so they can coach me towards actual solutions. Curious though, what do you consider good qualifications for a life coach, assuming you were looking for one?
I've never hired one, but a good friend of mine recently became a certified life coach after a few years in consulting. Her mission is to provide clients with the clarity in what they want out of their careers and equip them with the skills to build that dream career and make a transition, if necessary. There are a lot of different types of life coaches, but if you need some help putting together a clear vision of your goals and some tactical advice on how to achieve them, I recommend it!
What kind of skills is she equipping people with?
I was surprised to find out how many successful partners have life coaches, particularly GCSPs. Finding that out made me consider it
Yes, it’s always good to take a step back and evaluate what you’re doing, what makes you happy, and the impact you’re having. With that said, I went to a life coach session/cult gathering and absolutely hated how brainwashed most life coaches are. If you get a life coach, get someone with a background in psych so there’s more substance to the coaching
It was about 5 years ago so I am failing to remember the details. The group running the session was called landmark forum and it was somewhere in midtown west manhattan in a windowless auditorium. I was dating a girl who took me and she was amazing, until she took me here. I recall a guy psyching people up similar to tony Robbins and people around me having epiphanies and what not. There was constant pressure to invite friends and families to events which bordered on coercion. They also made you feel like shit and that you were screwing yourself if you didn’t come back. There was a lot of high fiveing each other and hugging each other. I didn’t want to confirm to that. There was also a financial buy in to follow through. I left more offended than inspired, but like anything else that focuses on self growth, there may have been a few things I picked up on, but I can’t recall it right now. If I would do it all over again, I would do more intimate coaching where the counselor has a background in psychology
