Has anyone ever tried a running coach? Did it help your times?

yeah - I’ve used them in the past. having someone write a personalized training plan should [normally] lead to faster times as it addresses your weaknesses and if they’re able to watch you run, can correct your form.

generic plans off the internet only go so far.

Thanks! Good reminder to keep having fun in mind as that’s how I got started with this 😁
VP- yes following the Hal Higdon novice plan and have been training alongside a friend for the same races which helps with keeping the enthusiasm up but we do separate runs as he’s a lot faster. I’m not really trying to beat a certain time with the race, just want to enjoy it and feel accomplished at the end. I’ve done 6 half marathons at ~11:30 avg. pace incrementally getting a little faster over the last 2 years since picking up running and felt happy with those given where I started from, but do recognize this is on the slower end of the distance running spectrum so trying to keep my expectations realistic for going after a full. Think I’d feel pretty down if I end up burning out and walking a ton of it toward the end, so just trying to work through what it’ll take to get me to the finish line while still feeling like I actually ran it (i.e., slow jogged it)

So much respect for what you’ve accomplished, 9x is wild!!

No I haven’t, I’ve looked online and they are so expensive for an online coach. I would read jack daniels book and apply his training/training plans.

Honest question: I’m training for my first marathon. Does it really matter where I get my calories from? I am burning between 1,000-2,000 calories a day training and my body seems to be hanging in there ok. Does it truly matter if I’m eating ribeye vs lean chicken? I feel like getting to 3,000-4,000 calories a day in a healthy fashion is really really hard. Just from a volume standpoint.

Is it accurate for nutrition labels to use net carbs instead of total carbs when calculating calories? For example I was excited to find these 70 calorie bagels. But the math ain’t mathing with 5g of fat and 37g of carbs. I started doing some research and realized they used net carbs but I can’t find a consensus on whether or not it’s actually 70 calories or 168 calories. I’m doing CICO to lose the last few lbs so trying to be as accurate as possible, I would really appreciate any insight!

In past I've had severe mental health issues. I'm managing them now but my mom insists on knowing my meds and being listed as someone my doctors can disclose HIPPA information to. I've tried to kick ball down the road but I think this is intrusive. We otherwise have a good relationship and my impulse is to just give in but I just want my medical records to be private just in case I decide to have sex, or have a medical condition I want to choose to disclose to my family.

Curious if this happens to anyone else - I workout regularly (mix of cardio and strength training) and eat healthy 90% of times. I make sure to eat veggies and protein in almost every meal, alongside some carbs. In general, I’m a big foodie and do love food. But I am CONSTANTLY hungry. No matter how satiated I feel after a meal, I’m hungry again in an hour. Not sure if this is psychological more than physical, but I’m trying to lose weight and this is making it so tough!
