The book Hardcore Zen frames meditation in a slightly different light that helped me stick to it longer than I would otherwise. At one point the author recollected on the beginning of his practice,
"Maybe I wasn't doing it right. Maybe I was missing something crucial. Maybe what I was doing on my cushion with my stupid mind as I was staring dumbly at the wall wasn't quite it. Now I can look back after 20 years and say: Nope—that was it. Boring, boring, boring. Just sitting there."
When I started, I thought it wasn't working because I noticed myself getting distracted more, then I realized I was just more aware of my mind and was simply more aware of how frequently I got distracted which, in turn, was actually helping me stay more on task. The practice of letting thoughts go allowed me to more easily let distracting thoughts go. But yeah, it kind of sucks for our brains to do. :-)
I have. I wish it worked for me. My brain will just not focus. I try to do meditative activities instead like art and exercise and even cleaning—where I’m focused on the task and the music playing and my brain finally relaxes lol.
I have a hard time getting in to it too. I recently tried sound bowl meditation, which I found engaging and relaxing. Tons of videos of it on YouTube if you want to give it a try
I tried for months last year, but I’d keep getting distracted and didn’t feel I was getting anything out of it. I personally found yoga worked better for me.
I’ve maintained a daily habit for 3 years. My experience is it’s quite helpful if you can do at least 15-20mis daily, less than that, not very helpful.
It’s ironic that this is helpful for people with ADHD but also incredibly difficult for us😂
haha yes! I feel like if I can get really good at meditating, I will conquer my adhd

Have you guys tried Headspace? Out of all the apps I've tried, I keep returning to headspace because of Andy's voice lol.
I found out you can buy the subscription much cheaper on eBay.
