It’s so boring that you never keep it up long enough to make an impact. Might help as a supplementary thing e.g. brushing up on vocab but useless on its own.
Immersion and being forced to speak the language at an early stage of learning is really important IMO. Forces your brain to make connections that just don’t get formed with pure memorization. I got to intermediate conversational Japanese in about 2 years with an intense program with 0 English spoken in the classroom.
Anyone try babel?
Do you speak any other languages?
Not very far but I wasn’t super motivated just did it for fun. Pro is that its like a game
I used it to learn Japanese from scratch
I love the app and found it better than Rosetta Stone tbh
Great way to start. Been on the pro version for a year and learned a ton. Not fluent but light years ahead of where I was. Platform keeps improving. Don’t like the forced wokeness of the characters, but that aside, you can make a lot of progress with the app.
I finished all of the Spanish modules until the end. I think it is a superior product to Rosetta Stone. However, it helped that I were in night school studying Spanish at the time and used it as reinforcement. Otherwise I would have never finished it til the end. Do I still speak Spanish? No, you have to keep practicing the skills or you lose them, but it’s easier to come back up to speed if you previously learned. That’s true for everything.
Rosetta keeps marketing their discounted lifetime membership - could be the move?
I made a lot more progress with Rocket Italian
