I have lean PCOS and used Metformin to decrease miscarriage/improve egg quality. I started with 1/2 tab per day for 1 week, then gradually up it. I’m not familiar with the alternative posted above, but do recommend its use as a careful diet alone has never worked for me. Anything to restore the normal hormonal profile.
I have never heard the phrase “lean PCOS” before! That’s what I have so thanks for giving me the term!

I have been using it for 12 years. My endocrinologist put on extended release one since the original one is too strong for me. I'm on a low carb diet to avoid sugar spikes and frequent toilet visits.
It kills my appetite but I did drop a good 20 lbs. I had side effects for the first one month of taking it.. nothing anymore. I’ve been taking it for 2 years for PCOS.
I take a supplement that is comparable to taking metformin but has no side effects.. I would look into trying that first! Actually got ride of all my cysts, I dropped 10 pounds too… the fact that doctors often don’t know about this makes me really sad. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/331025610_A_comparative_study_of_combination_of_Myo-inositol_and_D-chiro-inositol_versus_Metformin_in_the_management_of_polycystic_ovary_syndrome_in_obese_women_with_infertility
I use Wholesome Story, they are sold on Amazon as well where you can see some raving reviews. Took about 2-3 months to see the full benefits. I take 4 pills all at once in the morning. At first I had a mild stomach upset after taking but now I don’t feel that ever.

What diet and exercise routine are you following for PCOS?
It’s not specific for PCOS but I went to a holistic nutritionist and they recommended cutting out carbs, sugar and dairy plus a few other things that I reacted negatively to like mushrooms for a month and then depending on how it goes reintroduce some food. Exercise is cardio for at lease 30 mins 4days a week with some light weight training.
I’ve been taking it for 2ish years for PCOS. I’m on the regular, not extended release. I had bad stomach side effects for the first week or so, but then they went away, so I’d encourage you to try to push through and see if any side effects get better. I also eat pretty healthy, and my endo said that minimizes side effects. I have not lost weight but I did not go on it for weight loss.
It’s highly dependent on your situation but Metformin is indeed used for people with PCOS, but usually when you’re trying to get pregnant.
It does stimulate some weight loss, but also increases fertility.
Usually you start with one tablet a day, and after a couple of weeks move onto two.
