If you are starting as an Audit Associate some time from now with Deloitte or any of the big 4, do they expect you to have passed/completed all 4 parts by the time you start? Received the Becker Reimbursement email from the recruiter not too long ago but have yet to start. I’ve seen plenty of people get to Senior at a big 4 firm without the CPA so I am a bit confused in that aspect. Any helpful feedback will be very much appreciated.

What are these hour lunch breaks you speak of?
I'd hate to work under you audit senior manager
^The hour breaks I'm entitled to 💁🏻
Pro tip: save time and skip the shower lol (joking)
I've done it. 30 minute workout. 10 minute shower/change. Back to the office in under an hour. Don't let your health dwindle because of your job.
@ audit seniormanager- I'm sorry you get aggravated to no end over a post on fishbowl, maybe you should also go to the gym to help you with your aggravation. That being said, maybe I am an hourly FLSA non exempt employee that just happened to not update my job title on fishbowl....so yes, I do get a lunch break tyvm 💁🏻
Depends what you're doing. You can do 30 minutes of cardio then shower and you'll be done. Or you can lift only for 30 minutes. Or you can do 15 minutes of high intensity cardio - sprints 30 seconds on/off and then do a giant set of a body part (3-5 exercises back to back with a 30 second rest for 4 sets at 5-12 reps each) or vice Versa with giant set first then sprints. It's possible. Just can't drag yourself
How are we not entitled to a lunch hour? Our work schedule at our firm is 9-530. And a standard day is 7.5 hours. Leaving one hour for lunch
Unless you are an hourly FLSA non exempt employee, you are not entitled to a lunch break. That is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard to think that you are entitled to a lunch break. The fact that you state that aggravates me to no end. You are a professional employee not at the factory so you don't get a lunch break. That being said, people on B teams do this regularly in busy season and really enjoy it, and it helps them be energized in busy season. I do that because I care about my team, not because they're entitled to it.
@WM typically the B4 teams don't have structured weeks or a structured workday. You need to book 40 hours a week, however, many teams allow for flexible schedules (i.e. 10 hours Mon - Thurs and take Fri off). Most teams don't care how long you take for lunch. Take 2 hours if you want. End of day you need 40 hours billed during the week and all your deadlines met. If you're not meeting deadlines then it would become an issue. Otherwise most good managers dgaf as long as shit is getting done.
I agree with the comments on the thoughts that you are entitled to a lunch break. That said- I would ask your senior/manager about making time to work out a few times a week and offer a plan on how you will get your work done and not inconvenience the team. There are individuals on my team that have arrangements like this but do come in earlier/stay later to make it work. I think you also have to build up some trust with your team before they might be comfortable with this sort of arrangement.
I agree with OP - always entitled to a lunch break in public accounting. 💁🏼
Yes, absolutely. It's about flexibility, accountability to your team and also to yourself, living healthy behaviors, working smarter, setting a great example for others, and communication.
Ok I misread then. When I first read ASM's message it seemed like he didn't allow lunch breaks
Legal issues would arise if you didn't allow your employees a break from work. It is actually illegal to have an employee work for more than 4 hours with out some sort of break.
^Good luck winning that suit. Sounds like career suicide to me.
Nobody is stopping anyone from taking a break. This isn't the Amistad. If you're always taking 1 hour lunches and not getting your work done then you will get fired. If you are getting your work done nobody cares about your lunches.
My life point is it can't be policy to prevent a break. However if people make a choice not to utilize it that is a different story
Oh ya totally right. No way is there a policy to force employees to skip a break. If anything the firms policies are geared towards more breaks, workplace flexibility. Etc...
This whole thread seems driven by bullshit timing. Get your work done. End of story. You should realize as an adult that that means if everyone else works 9-5 you should be there during as many of those hours as you can. That may change day to day but if you're in at six and take an hour and a half lunch. Leave when you're time and work for the day are in. We all know that varies. The fact OP is asking typically means they care and wouldn't abuse it.
