I know of a few people who were able to successfully move out of the HCP-focused healthcare agency world into a more general advertising agency.
A lot of agencies have a growing health and wellness sector and no idea how to deal with regulatory and healthcare-related nuances. You could hypothetically move into a more general agency that needs a creative with pharma experience while also working on non-healthcare brands.
This is really excellent advice! So, OP, you'd obviously still -sort of- be working with healthcare stuff, but you'd then of the opportunity to grow your portfolio more broadly and open more doors.
Tech (not just health tech). I moved from HCP to tech recently and I was surprised that a lot of the writers I interviewed with were really interested in my pharma work. It can be a real benefit to have technical work under your belt
Tech is WAY more with bonuses + stock + actual good benefits
You can also work on side projects to keep your portfolio diverse enough to show that you can think and execute the same quality work beyond healthcare. Some of us work in healthcare and show no healthcare in our book unless when interviewing at a pharma agency.
Go into health tech!!
