I’m hating my job so bad I fantasize about walking out on my boss. My work itself is enjoyable but my boss (co-founder and CEO of a Series C startup) has become such a pain it ruins my mental health and family life. Working 12-15hrs everyday, working on many weekends, yet no appropriate for my work. We are mostly remote so a lot of interactions are over Slack. Now, I could never imagine one can be so obnoxious and mean over Slack messages when talking about work. I want to run away everyday.

A good strategy I have is to see what type of client I am talking to and make dinner in the house for that person. I mean, if it is a couple I prepare a romantic dinner for two, and I tell them to come well-dressed and let them enjoy the dinner in the house. If it is a family, I prepare a family dinner and prepare the family table for all the people who would live in the house. Making them feel at home before buying the house does not fail, what do you think? What other strategies do you use?

I thought I really wanted to be a chemical engineer but the reality of the day to day has been disappointing to say the least… is this a common sentiment for a first job? Do I just have to keep going to get somewhere interesting?

My whole life and personality has revolved around my identity of being a really smart but awkward loner. Now that I’m in big law and struggling, I can’t even say I’m smart anymore. God help me. I’ve had sex in the office before- with a man and a woman (I am a woman), but that was in my 20s. I thought I was past that. But there’s this super hot guy in the office, and I learned we had mutual friends. You can cut the tension with a knife between us. We had lunch last week and he kept inviting me to more things. We have these wellness rooms in our building- a lockable, private room with a recliner, sink, table and microwave. He brought it up in conversation and smirked.

My neighbor lets their dog out daily to roam their yard/property and it barks at anything and everything in eye sight. To add to that, I go on walks in my neighborhood (have to pass their house) and it will follow me along their property line barking until it can’t see me anymore. I’ve tried ignoring and also acknowledging it but nothing stops it. It’s also a large dog although they seem to have an invisible fence. Frankly, it’s obnoxious and just annoying. Do I just continue to ignore?

I’m African. My white American therapist told me I haven’t found a great partner yet because I keep dating African men but that the culture is plagued with so much toxicity that doesn’t align with my personal values (her assumption, I hadn’t said anything about the culture of 54 countries). She told me to consider myself as not just African (I’m mixed) and be open to people outside my culture.
