Has anyone experienced sleep paralysis? I recently started my first traveling engagement & I’m not sure if it’s the project stress or hotel life but I experience it at least 2x/week. Any tips?

Omg. In don't wish that anyone. I usually give up and go back to sleep lol. I can never seem to make myself get up.

It's terrifying, but manageable. I've had it since middle school. Usually brought on when I take naps. Typically involves a hallucination of someone else being present in the room I'm in and being totally unable to move/having extremely foggy thinking. My advice is to pay attention to what types of environments or sleeping situations bring it on and try to avoid them. Mine is strongly associated with naps. Sounds like McKinsey1 had a similar situation, plus some! If you can't avoid the sleeping scenario(s) that bring it on, just ride it out. After all, it's only a dream!

Great advice, I will pay closer attention on how the day played out to see if I find any triggers. Thank you!

There’s this magnesium powder called Calm. You can find it on Amazon. It helped me a lot. It also makes you use the restroom if you take a lot at once, so make sure to start off with the recommended teaspoon first and build your way up. I typically get the original flavor, since I’m not a fan of the other ones. But try it out. Hope you feel better!

I will definitely check it out, thanks so much for the recommendation!

Yeah! I get it a lot. It’s particularly bad when I am sleep deprived, have lots of caffeine that day. take 5-HTP or have daytime naps (more an issue in my uni days). Mine manifests as I can’t move & feel someone is watching me so I have a few tactics that help: I always deadlock the hotel room each night so I logically know no one is in my room and can remind myself it’s sleep paralysis. I try to go back to sleep first and if I have to make myself wake up I focus on wiggling my big toe - as soon as I can move my big toe the rest of my body will move. Would love any other hacks people might have?

So interesting!! I started to focus on moving my jaw a little and then everything else follows. I will definitely use the deadbolt trick- my hallucinations always include random people standing in my room. So creepy

Oh my this sounds like an episode of Haunting of Hill House. If you haven’t, check it out!

I watched the haunting of Hill House and had to travel the week after. That was the only time I had sleep paralysis at a hotel. My (superstitious and Asian) mom said that spirits can sense when you are afraid and they feed off your fear. She said before sleeping anywhere new, you should announce yourself and say "i am here to visit and if there's anything here, please don't bring harm and go away." 😂 she was trying to make me feel better but it actually ended up scaring me even more

Best of luck... Make sure they pay for their half of the room too if they're going to be hanging out

I was offered a position at Deloitte for ~26k more than I’m making currently, but they told me that in 2.5 years when the contract is over I will be out of a job. Obviously I’ll be able to network within those two years and probably find something more permanent, so it’s very similar to gig work at BAH. I also just started a new project at BAH last month so I feel uneasy leaving after a month. Can someone at Deloitte give me more insight about PDM work at the company?

Livid & need to vent. Had a call with a client, I am the attorney that manages their cases. A male attorney was on the call with me as well. I try to explain something to client multiple times and he keeps cutting me off to explain his question again (even though I am answering the question but for the interruptions). Male attorney jumps in and explains exactly same of what I am saying, male client listens intently, no interruptions, then essentially ignores me the rest of the call. Raaaaage 🤬

I was due for a promotion but then covid hit, and during the peak of layoffs/furloughs, I was given the run-around that we have agency wide promotion freezes, etc. Over the past month, a handful of people have been promoted. I know everyone's situation is different but I can't help feeling snubbed. How do I know whether they are genuinely trying to promote me and can't, versus them stringing me along for as long as possible? I dont want it to come to having to bring another offer to the table..
