Has anyone found dating apps to be successful for young female attorneys trying to find someone with similar career goals and ambitions?

Met my non-attorney but very driven husband on tinder.

I can’t say for sure that statistically it is, but I have personally met my current partner on the apps when I expected it the least and he is as ambitious as I am/highly supportive of my career/financially savvy and responsible

I met my husband on OkCupid. When we started dating, he was an artist who made most of his money working as a barista. I wanted to date someone who had a more flexible schedule and who I wouldn't have to compete with professionally. I had a lot of issues in the past with dating a fellow biglaw attorney.

My husband is now a software engineer with a very flexible schedule. Whenever I need to work late and the nanny is not around, he cares for our kids and makes sure I'm taken care of. He is definitely not as ambitious as I am but he's a hard worker and makes a similar salary.

Dating to me was a lot like interviewing. If you use more apps, you’ll have more opportunities to click with someone. If you go on more dates/interviews, you are more practiced and find a fit good for you.

I met my partner on an app. Not a lawyer but absolutely supportive and driven person.

CMB. I found my boyfriend there and we both share the similar goals. Though he is in finance but we share similar goal and ambition.

I was wrapping up a reasonably amicable, but still "not part of plan A" divorce, and a friend got me on Tinder -- I was not looking for a forever person, just wanted to get the ol' training wheels on for some practice dating....and met a brilliant fellow there! A former attorney with a very solid head on his shoulders, who is in e-Discovery, cares for his kid, and adores mine...and has been incredible for my career, while maintaining his own!

Hey, Chi. First time caller.

So I'm considering a switch from law to consulting, and noticed EY has started posting salary ranges for positions. All the mid- to senior-level jobs I'm looking at are in the $95k to $150k range. Is that right? True for all the big 4? Seems super low. I guess I never thought about it before but how exactly do you folks get paid?

Got laid off due to Covid in July. I have been searching for a job for three weeks. Diligently looking and applying. I keep getting rejection letters and Linkedin resume views, but no offers. Not even a single interview. My resume looks great and experience is amazing. Anyone else in the same boat? Misery needs company 😝

I’m currently a junior associate in a boutique litigation firm handling IP. I’ve taken a depo already, will argue in court next month and by all accounts, I am great at it. But I’m miserable. I find the games with opposing counsel exhausting and I despise writing briefs (even if I’m good at it). My pre-law school job was in public relations and I chose litigation because I like to win, but I’m now realizing I like success more than the win-lose. Feeling lost… should I move to transactional?

Fellow millennial lawyers: tell me, in general terms, 1 or 2 clients you acquired and how you acquired them. I feel like the suggested strategies for developing business are always the same: network, build your brand (hate this phrase), market yourself on LinkedIn, etc. Does any of this work? Seems to me to that most business development comes from long-standing contacts (e.g. your childhood best friend is now CEO and needs legal services), so I’m curious how other attorneys developed business.

What are various firms doing to assist/support working parents with the new school year, which at least in New York, contains part-time in the building & part-time virtually? In the spring, virtual learning seemed temporary, so we all managed. Now that it's more permanent, I'm not sure how I will manage long-term. I will likely have to drop to part-time - a decision I suspect will impact vastly more mothers than fathers.

This post is part rant/part request for advice. I am a relatively new partner (title on this app has not updated yet) in a male dominated practice. I am only the second woman partner in my practice at my firm, ever, and it has been around for a while. Having dealt with various issues navigating my way towards partnership, I’m very involved in mentoring younger attorneys and particularly women. I recently heard that a young woman associate in my practice group told others I am not (cont.)

I joined a new firm October 1 & billed a 200 hour month. With my current workload, I am expecting to meet or exceed my prorated hours target. When I accepted the position, future bonuses were discussed, but given ramp up, etc. I didn’t think to ask about a prorated bonus for my stump year. Has anyone dealt with this before? I hate to ask & sound greedy, but I relocated (at a pay cut) for this position & a bonus would really help going to my mortgage payments I’m still carrying for my old condo.

Anyone else obsess over your next career move? I’m a senior associate in a niche BigLaw group in DC. I am just now hitting my stride and can really see a path to partnership. I handle my own matters relatively independently, am generating some business, and will inherit a large book of business in my favorite space in the next year or so. The problem is that this isn’t what I want, or at least what I think I want. (Continued in comments).

I quit. I was respectful. Thankfully, every person I have told has been so nice, and I wasn't immediately bounced out by my leadership (which has happened), but I have been surprised by my own bittersweet tears. If they actually cared, why didn't they say so sooner? I gave so much, and I was consumed by this organization. I invested in them, but my investment and dedication were not reciprocated, which is why I ever even entertained leaving. I don't know why it hurts, but it really, really does.

I hung out this weekend with a work friend of mine. We’re both junior, but I’ve been on FMLA due to an unexpected illness so have been away for a bit. I know that I screwed up on some files before I was diagnosed which I feel awful about and have been trying to rectify (unpaid), but she spent a lot of time cataloguing the ways in which I messed up. It was supposed to be a nice weekend for once and I’m feeling more beat down than ever 😕 just not sure how to get the motivation/nerve to go back!

Annual review advice?
I feel very secure in my long-term employment and am doing very well. I work at a midsized boutique with a generally solid culture. I’ve been described as “rising star/golden child” etc., glowing reviews. The thing is that I’ve had a tough year with absent mentors, low interaction/training (there are extenuating circumstances with my SA.) Do I mention what changes I need to see to stay here? Or just go along, accept my good reviews and bonus, and keep my head down?
