Has anyone given up on added sugars completely? What has the journey/experience been like?

Yes. In fact I’ve eliminated sugar and slashed carbs from my diet, with a rare exception of whole fruit no more than once a day.

It’s tough at first, (I had major cravings where I thought I would kill for a bag of sugar or loaf of bread) but by the 4/5 week your body adjusts.

What’s tough is that sugar is in almost everything that that’s processed, boxed, jarred, frozen, etc. you will have to train yourself to look very carefully at nutritional labels.

Gluten free products are among the worst offenders.

Organic may not be your friend if it is sweetened with honey or agave (added).

If you are sincere, you would be wise to focus more on what you are gaining (health, regulating insulin and energy levels, hormone levels, etc) than what you are giving up - short term bliss on the taste buds.

I pretty much stay in a keto diet/state (about three years now) and my physique has responded favorably. I no longer have energy highs and lows. Before the haters chime in - this is my choice. Everyone has to find what works with their own body and beliefs.


Diet soda doesn’t spike the insulin, but i gave that up too. Coffee, tea, and other sources of caffeine will give you the alertness factor without the chemicals and artificial sugar. But again, it’s as choice.


Tried it. Succeeded for a while, then gave up. Regretted trying. Didn't really lose weight on it. Felt more lethargic and my gut was killing me because of the amount of fibre I was eating. Ended up with an orthorexia diagnosis.

Also, the amount of mental stress required to turn away so many tasty food options was too much. Landed in a happy medium where I don't have added sugars in about 50-70% of my foods.

Tldr; Eat added sugars in moderation but not excess.


Yes, about 2 years ago. Very hard for the first couple weeks - almost like giving up caffeine. Afterwards, less hard, but I’ve become an über label-reader - they sneak that stuff into everything, including lots of “low-fat” options. Sugar is a great cheap bulking agent, so my food bill has gone up a bit. Blood work WAY better now. After a couple years, it’s no big deal, and I’ve become a much better cook and way more comfortable cooking with a range of fun spices.


Added sugar yes. Stevia (pure form - not the blended with artificial sweetener kind) has proved an excellent sub in coffee/recipes. I figure If diabetics can do it, why can’t I


I used stevia too in my coffee and some in baking


I have and funny thing is I don’t like sugar anymore. Initially I started eating raisins , cranberries, dates etc with foods that I was used to adding sugar too. I still eat dark chocolate once a day but no processed sugar other than that and fruits.


I’ve given up. Like I’ve just given up. Ha

My mental state has gone from an 80 to about a 30. I've been consistently having what feels like the beginnings of a panic attack whenever I think about work and I've ended up crying every day because I try focusing but it's so hard and I still don't get shit done.

Just finished the final round interview. Got positive feedback from the interviewer and recruiter sent me an update email within an hour saying that the interviewer will have the last interview next Friday and they plan to have the final decision on the following Monday.

Any thoughts? Positive, negative or neutral sign?
A little surprised when the recruiter says they would have the final decision one day after the last one interview.

I don’t understand what to do to lose weight. F/30 years old. From 18-27 I did all the diets (OMAD, keto, IF, only eating 1200-1300/day with workouts 5-7x/wk) before realizing it was f’ing up my relationship with food. How often do you all train abs?


Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal, 3/4 cup berries, 1 tsp chia seed, 1 cup unsweetened almond milk + 1/2 cup nonfat greek yogurt
Lunch: 2 Ezekiel bread toasted, 2 eggs, 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 cup raw carrot sticks, 2 dates
Snack: 20 roasted cashews
Dinner: 1/3 lb fish or tofu, 2 to 3 cups of veggies, 1/2 regular sized baked sweet potato, 1/2 avocado
What I eat every day with the exception of Saturday dinner & Sunday lunch. Frequently run long runs and participate in ultra races. Am I not eating enough


I’ve been hitting so many bumps in the “road” to the point I can’t work, I’m emotionally fully stressed out. Yet in my head i punish myself for being lazy because I take many breaks just to breathe or meditate/walk around. Nothing seems to be helping. Do I need a therapist?
