Yes! I found it to be a very rewarding change! It can be a bit tough to get in but if you network, it’ll be the great start to a culture that will help you climb the ladder.

Please share tips. I’m in healthcare and want to change also

What is data science?

like

Data science is using data to objectively look into any problems or bring solutions or improvements you can bring to business, healthcare or any industry.

The data can come from a variety of sources (depending upon which industry you are referring to) such as customers spending time on websites, how many clicks they do, or patient records in healthcare and assessing costs related to procedures etc.

The person who will analyse this data needs to know the software and statistical tools so that they can extract the information, and trends, or predict any outcomes.

like

It's possible. Try to gain as much experience working with data as possible. This could involve working on projects within your current job or volunteering for data-related roles outside of work. The more experience you have, the better equipped you will be to make the transition into data science. It's what really made the difference for me.

like

Any suggestions for volunteering for data-related roles? I feel like I need a coach or tutor to teach me!

nope, but that is my plan. I'm currently in Informatics and I do write some analytical reports through the EHR. I would love a data engineer job dealing with clinical data.

I started a firm with three other colleagues about a year and a half ago. We all came from the same bigger firm and now obviously we are considered a very small. We want to make our first hire and hire someone for around $100,000 as a manager to manage around $200,000 of work. They came back at $120,000. After taxes and benefits that’s $150k to manage and prepare $200k of work. Anyone own a smaller firm who can share opinion? How much work should one manage for that kind of salary?

For anyone debating whether to go in house, I recently went in house, and the mental health benefit of not having to worry about billable hours is completely worth the switch. It's great not having to worry about catching up on hours when I'm out for a doctor's appointment, vacation, etc. It's more of a mental health relief than I guessed it would be.

Hi there- wondering if anyone can provide insight on what a good hourly rate might be for a toddler (2.5 years old) and an infant (4 months) for a recurring nanny, working 30 hours a week. The toddler will be starting half-day preschool in a few months as well. Does that mean we have two different rates depending on when the toddler is home? Any additional insight on standard benefits would also be very helpful. Am new to this and not sure what is reasonable and competitive. Am in Boston suburb

I am in the customer service and sales side of travel insurance, and I am looking for a new job, possibly in another field. A much larger company purchased us 2 years ago, and over the last 6 months I have lost 2 designations, one as an advocate, which was my most rewarding. I was told that it had nothing to do with my performance. Any suggestions on how to obtain a position in another area? Such as going from strictly customer service and sales to advocate and claims? Thanks
