I haven't because I worry about getting bored. Do you have any side projects of your own to keep you sane?
I can’t speak about the data side, but from a Design/UX point of view I’d say that agency client work is varied but shallow, whereas focusing on a platform long term allows you to go super deep, as well as to be able to think strategically about problems in terms of years, not limited by client/contract timelines. There’s also the tension between putting enough hours/resources into a client project and making a profit for the agency, which forces one to take shortcuts one wouldn’t take in their own product. Overall, I vastly prefer to go deep into a platform than to dip my fingers into many client projects.
It’s a matter of personality; if you enjoy long, deep, focused projects, go platform, if you prefer variety, go agency client.
^ trust me it doesn’t get boring, once you do the shallow work, you get to work on the hard problems.
I think this depends on your personal preferences too. I for example like specific and narrow work better.
