Has anyone gone into roles as the sole counsel at a tech start up? I have an interview for the first and only (for now) counsel at a very promising health tech company. I know it will be a lot of work but I’m concerned about drowning since I’m not familiar with the tech/startup world.

I'd maybe find out who has been doing their legal work so far. What your budget would be as legal counsel and if they are looking to expand this role.

Could be very interesting and have a lot of potential for reward. But you'd want to kick the tires on the company as well - make sure it's a place you can see yourself growing and contributing to and not Theranos 2.0. Work life balance might be rough in the beginning so something to consider. Good luck! Hope it works out!

I was solo inhouse in healthcare (not tech). Very scary times.

I’m interviewing with the company although I have offer signed with another (going though background checks, so didn’t wanna stop before knowing 100%). Really love the process and the team, but unless something goes sideways with signed offer won’t be joining them. I want to take more brainstorming, decision making responsibilities but I don’t see that in the career path for PM. Career path usually goes like this- Sr PM, Director l, Sr Director, and so on. But all do same work.

Everything seemed fine but this morning he texts me "I'm sorry it just seems like we aren't looking for the same things." What did I do wrong here? Should I have let him come inside?
