I went to Paris by myself for 5 days. It was nice reading a book at a bistro with a glass of wine, eating an entire box of pastries for breakfast, wondering around small off the beaten path museums. And it wasn’t as packed with tourists during off season. I got this cute tiny AirBnb with a nice view, it was great. Also took a 45 min train to Reims to visit some champagne houses. Recommend 100%.
I’ve taken extensive solo trips domestically and internationally—they are both amazing for very different reasons. Think about what you are in the mood for (eg, cultural immersion, culinary destinations, sightseeing, shopping, nature, etc) and then tailor your destination accordingly. Most importantly, do what you want, not what others think you should do! Go with your gut. Have fun and be safe! 👍
Thailand! Chiang Mai was stunning.
Also because you have just a week, your international travel options may be limited. You don’t want to spend most of your time traveling and/or jetlagged!
Europe for international options are probably best. France (Paris, Nice, Loire Valley, Lyons, Champagne, Bordeaux), Italy (Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, Rome), Austria (Vienna), Croatia (Dubrovnik, Split), Czecho-Slovakia (Prague), and Germany (Berlin) are all highly recommended.
Montreal for a quicker international experience. Feels like you are in Europe without needing to travel very far.
Domestic recommendations include Seattle, Burlington, Santa Fe, Sedona, Tahoe, Miami, D.C.
Again all of these offer quite different experiences—you need to think about what you are looking for.
Sorry! D’oh! 😂
If you have a Facebook, there’s a page “The Solo Travel Female Network” that has over 300k members of women sharing their trips and tips.
I've taken a few domestically and internationally. I did some research into places I wanted to see, things to do, total costs, dining and travel options, etc. I never felt in danger from traveling alone but definitely be aware of your surroundings and don't leave your stuff unattended. There were a few instances where streets didn't feel safe so I would take another route. Most importantly, take the time to have fun!
Have traveled to Paris, London and Madrid by myself with no issue. Paris is far more interesting, but taking the train to London is really easy. My first time over there I did a 3/2 night split between Paris, London. Was a bit too short of a visit in Paris.
I’d be willing to go to most major cities in Europe by myself.
