After a hard reset on travel points (got none after Covid and change to industry) how would you start over? Which credit card is best for travel points? Airline? Starwood or Bonvoy? Avis or ??

At one time I had status on most airlines and hotels but I never bothered to focus on accumulating points since it seemed like they were infinite and I booked on convenience. Oh have times changed! I even let go of Amex platinum, just wasn’t worth it to me. Base airport LAX/SNA so no airline pref.

So I’ve been sitting on $40k in cash for last 2 months given my certainty of the economy (stupid move in retrospect). We’re at the end of refinancing and my loan officer wants a letter indicating what my federal student loan payments will be after the forbearance is over. My last recalculation happened in 2019, so I gave him that letter but he says it’s too old. The loan verification letter from Fedloan reflects just $0 payments and $0 due, in forbearance until September. Has anyone else run into this and if so, how did you get around it? I could write a letter explaining but not sure what else to do. TIA
