Has anyone gotten a job by applying via LinkedIn or the company’s website rather than a recruiter or referral? Feeling like sending my resume in where I have no contacts is worthless :(

The easy apply feature on LinkedIn has worked best for me. Unfortunately it’s limited to certain openings

I know a few people who have. As they say, you miss every shot you don't take

like

VP, you’re a VP; I’m surprised you would be applying on LinkedIn at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️

like

As a VP, I understand all too painfully that the higher up you go, the fewer and fewer jobs there are. I was once part of a large round of senior-level layoffs at a big agency in a major market. All of us were out of work and struggling to find jobs for a very long time.

like

Definitely, both ways. Can’t hear yes unless you ask, or you can’t catch fish without a line in the water. Or something, lol. (Good luck with your search!)

like

Yes, but it’s always worth taking the time to find the recruiter for that post and shoot them a personalized note when you apply. Almost a mini cover letter. Let them know you’re worth their time. But don’t be discouraged when you don’t hear back on one particular thing; some of these positions get hundreds of applicants, wind up getting filled internally, etc. Lots of outcomes completely out of your control.

I've gotten 2-3 jobs through LinkedIn. Online applying works best when you're an actually really close fit to the job posting as it goes through ATS first. For any pivots or other less straightforward matches etc, networking and connections are far more effective

like

Yes. Keep trying!

Funny as I was just having this convo. I feel like jobs are already basically filled by the time they now get posted - wondering if it’s now just a formality to post Desperately seeking a new job and coming up empty!

I post all my open positions on LinkedIn. The easy reply feature is useless. Take the time to write a concise email why you are the best person for the job and why you want to work at company x. I notice a lot of candidates just talk about themselves!

like

I did!

I applied for over 100 and only got one via the company website! Only takes one

I’ve received a job offer from a LinkedIn easy apply. Was a good job offer salary wise but ended up taking a different one that I was more interested in

I've gotten my jobs from applying via website or Linkedin..recruiters never did nothing for no one.

Yes! LinkedIn worked for me many times for landing a job and getting callas back on my resume.

At my current agency from a LinkedIn opening! It’s a smaller agency, so I think that might have been a positive. I’m looking at making the move to NY in a month or two, hopefully I still have the same confidence in it then.

I didn’t know anyone at McCann NY and saw the job on LinkedIn (which directed me to the career portal). 🤷🏻‍♀️

Depends on your level; in general the more senior you go the harder it is to find good roles. I’ve heard that it can be a bit damaging to your equity if your resume is just out there. Networking is only going to become more important. Often a president or CEO has an idea of what he wants, but meeting the right person can move them to create a role around someone.

☝️me rn.

Thank you, VP, Client Services Director 1. When you’ve been at your shop for awhile and you are in a niche industry, it can be hard to find the next position just because there aren’t that many out there! Appreciate the support :)
