Has anyone gotten a Scrummaster certification? Surprisingly difficult to find info on the process online. What is involved/required?

^ Found the person who doesn’t work with developers. It’s stupid if it’s not relevant for what you do / you don’t need to work in that mode. It makes a huge difference for many, many people Thought experiment: has a superior ever given you three things to do by next week, and they’re all #1 priority, and you know each will take a week on it’s own? What did you do?

It’s the stupidest training and test I’ve ever seen. Money making scam if I’ve ever seen one.

like

And I work with developers all the time. I don’t disagree on the concepts. I just think they charge way too much money. This should be an hour long online video. Even company mandatory trainings have harder tests.

likesmart

But I am a developer and have worked with developers for years and have never needed or have had anyone with any of this “scrum” stuff. But hey, if having these certificates makes you feel better, good for you

like

I got my CSM. You just have to attend a training course (mine was 2 days at a local university) and then take an online test. I used my training budget and it was like 1K total.

LOL @ scrum

uplifting

I’m not saying the information isn’t useful. It just doesnt need a 2 day in person training and the material can be presented in so many better ways plus the test can be a little harder.

like

It takes an hour to explain the content and 2 days (or longer) to realize that yes, this can actually be applied to your job/organization.

smart

Most training is too long to justify the expense they want to charge. That doesn't mean the learnings and certification isn't useful. I think CSM is super helpful. OP go to scrum alliance website and I'm sure you'll find links to local training. We did a big group session just for our team, so if that's your situation too they can customize for that.

smart

P1 do you happen to find your projects tend to run over time and over budget because of rework? Because I bet the answer is yes.

like

Classic straw man argument, P1. It’s not the paper, it’s being smart enough to figure out the root cause of why so many projects fail and applying solutions to solve those problems. Good people doing waterfall will beat idiots doing scrum all day but that’s not a problem of scrum.

Are you waterfall then P1?

“It’s being smart enough to figure out the root cause of why so many projects fail and applying solutions to solve those problems.” I complete agree with this C1. I just don’t see the necessity in paying for a certificate and flaunting it as if the certificate alone makes you an expert in making projects work. Ill take an intelligent person with actual experience over someone with a scrum certificate every time.

CSM training is not about making projects work, from a generic perspective. It's about teaching the SCRUM methodology (which has that as its goal) and making sure you know how to make the team work effectively, size sprints properly, run scrum calls, manage backlog, etc etc etc. I'm not saying it's the be all end all, but it's very practical learning.

Can somebody please explain to me why MBB and other top consulting firms are so adamant that you have an MBA? I’m 36, earn 100k and I work maybe 30 hours a week, and I’m a shining star. It allows me to enjoy life without stress. I can linger around and see myself (slowly) climbing the ladder. But part of me wants to put in hard work and grow a lot in my career and earn more for a stable financial future, but it means I’ve got to work more and stress more and I’m worried I won’t get time to relax and enjoy my life as before. But also I’m worried I’ll slack off. Anyone going through this? Would I regret?
