No, not generally. You don’t have any leverage. Why would the firm negotiate with you?

Occasionally you’ll hear of cases where someone in HR forgot to click on something and the firm never comes after the bonus. That certainly happens, but it’s not something you can bet on. The one obvious case where you actually do have leverage is where you have the ability to drive significant revenue to the firm, so if you’re leaving for a leadership position at a big client the firm might negotiate with you there. And I suppose there have probably been humanitarian exceptions — if you get hit by a bus and are in a coma with less than 1 year at the firm, I doubt the firm will come after you for the bonus just because it’s not a good look and they’d want to avoid the headlines.

Otherwise, no, you can’t get out of it. Why would you think you could? You signed the contract, you have to live up to the terms.

So…this might be highly contentious but it’s better to get fired than leave amicably within a year. In majority of cases, you get severance as well as they let the bonus be.

Think about it - if you are willing to leave within a year, you are not planning on coming back anyways. So just take the bullet but with the vest ;)

Recently I gave an interview via monjin platform for tcs. 2 days later received a call from hr regarding salary discussion and for document uploading on tcs ibegin portal. She also shared the salary structure with me on mail. But since then on I begin portal in the track status tab it is showing resume shortlisted and fir documents it is showing pending for verification. Hr is also not receiving the calls. Anyone having the same situation? Or what I can do next? Can somebody help?

Service line - Tax; Is salary in LA & NYC same or is it different? I have an offer to move to NYC with 14% raise, and to LA with 18% raise. For NYC, living in NJ will help with lower rents, but LA I am not sure if I can find lower rentals within 30 min commute to the office. Taxes/gas/commute is higher in LA. I am having a hard time to decide which office to choose based on the salary increase. Any help would be appreciated.

Base salary $215k, bonus is ~$10k (lowballing), student loans are $150k, total savings are about $100k. 0 family money and will likely be supporting parents long term. 1. How are signing bonuses taxed vs performance bonuses? I’m seeing that all bonuses have a 22% federal tax rate.
2. How is relo taxed? Does it count as income?
