Yes, was totally fine. Went under after the treatment, but very easily, safely, and cheaply managed with a pill a day after
@BCG1 so you did ultimately become hypo? Did you experience any other side effects with wright gain, vision etc? How far along were you when you decided to go with radiation treatment?
I had a full thyroidectomy versus iodine treatment as I felt another six months of my situation was something I couldn’t manage at the time. Just adding for perspective. I had a pretty bad case of hyperthyroidism to compare. Ultimately, I am now hypo thyroid and I was told I would be regardless of the treatment - iodine or surgery. I would add that it takes some time (for me it was 2 years) before I felt like we had the right medications to replace the hormone that you’re not producing anymore
@EY1 thank you for sharing! what were some side effects that you felt during those two years?
At OP, yes became hypo. Weight gain, and felt kind of dizzy every so often because I was very very hypo. As EY1 stated took a little while to get medication at the right dose, felt much better after 3 months, pretty good a year in, and totally fine 2 years in. I had been hyper for about 10 years, got it as a kid
The side effects to the hyper medication (propylthiouracil) and potential liver damage are pretty bad if you stay on it from what I was told
I had body temperature swings, weight swings, hair loss, my sleep cycle got better, mood swings - the whole thing was kind of an emotional roller coaster but like I said - I was really really hyperthyroid. If you’d like to connect I think I could figure out how to post a burner ha but I’ve never done that. I had a family friend to ask similar questions too and that was super helpful
I had iodine for thyroid cancer and was hypo when I had it (because my thyroid had been removed). No weight but as the others have said, it took a while to get the right med levels afterward - about 10 months for me. In the meantime I felt fine but was hyper aware of my energy levels being low (tiredness, lethargy). I actually lost weight because of the surgery and then the awfully limited low iodine diet to prep for treatment.
