It's always been a dream of mine to work at Google, specifically as a UX designer (currently transitioning into UX from visual design). I've been so afraid to apply to any jobs with UX title, Google or not, because I'm always doubting myself and telling myself I'm still under-qualified.
UX designers & hiring managers, what are the skills a designer must have to be "qualified" for a UX position? Keywords on resume? Certifications? Thank you all in advance!

Back in the day we didn’t have email - when I first started my career. Lots more picking up phone to talk to people and in person collaboration. At night no email but also no laptops or cell phones so felt a bit isolated to be honest. But didn’t feel the pressure to respond to everything all the time
A more relaxing time, except we had to wear suits!

Working in a SCIF has some advantages... it’s illegal to take your work home
Yes, worked for a healthcare org where we did not have work laptops, just desktops. It was absolutely fantastic to leave for the day knowing whatever you’d left you would just pick up the next day.
I was a SWE in the late 2000s and we only had desktops... I clocked out at 5 every day without fail and it was glorious. Then, I changed jobs and got a laptop and a Blackberry and thought “damn I must be important now”. Yeah. We f*cked ourselves over with this tech.
I worked in a group home so no email, no take home work. But did get swore at and have to restrain teens when they were a danger to themselves or others (rare) sooo...email after hours is better if that's what your thinking. I'd say other direct care services are similar, no email.
Does not having access to client network except while logged in to remote desktop and or VDI count? Almost all emails received are on client network.
Back in the early email days, work email was only accessible via workstations. Being able to access email from home was quite the breakthrough. Accessing email on a personal phone was eureka!
Is it eureka? I’ve been working about 20 years post college. The first 10 I didn’t have remote access to email (would have only been able to access email by bringing my laptop home and dialing in - remember those token cards we used to have??)
I rarely did that, or rarely needed to. Since most other people were in the same boat. I had much less email to deal with. I wouldn’t mind going back to that.
Yea. I worked as store manager in retail for nearly 6 years. It was...very very rough to say the least.
Yeah worked in HR as a first year associate and couldn’t take home work because had a lot of PII on my email
Bruh. Chill.
Government is like this if you work in an office and don’t have a cell phone. Same thing applied to a non profit I worked at for awhile.
I worked in QA at a poultry plant for a few years... it was glorious being able to clock out and not have to even think about work until the next morning. The pay was crap, but at least “work life balance” was a thing, not just a concept spoken about and never actually followed.
