OP you can either post here or DM me. I am a senior and still technically part of the DSG program.

I personally have, but I'd say it works maybe 50% of the time. For starters, if you are in a bigger office that has multiple practices, then your opportunities are better that you can actually rotate between groups. I have rotated between 3 groups - Indirect, QS (R&D, methods and other accounting elections), and Provisions/Audit. The benefit by rotating for me has been working with so many different people. I would say 70% of the people in the office know me because I have worked in these different groups, and it allows me to reach out to different teams with different questions. Also, my experience in one line of work can be applied to my other line of work. For example, the work I did in our state and local group, I can apply when I audit tax provisions because I am familiar with state tax rates, apportionment, filing requirements, and state adjustments on the return. I found this to be the most effective aspect of the DSG program. So yes, I would definitely recommend, but a word of caution - you must build your career path. Those who are silent often get placed wherever to fill engagement needs. If you want something different, you have to talk to your counselor and scheduler and make sure you get the opportunities you want. Everyone who has done exactly that has been able to rotate correctly.

Last note - there have been some talks about trying to update the DSG program to make it more structured, but I'm not sure if it will happen or when. But it may be another year or two before changes are implemented.

The DSG program is the reason I chose EY. I feel that they truly want staff to find a place they enjoy and to build a lasting network in other groups

I know 4-5 people in our tax group (a PCS group) that came through the DSG program before settling in with PCS. Honestly, they all kick ass. They are more well rounded and tend to know know more about different scenarios. They’ve done some corporate, some foreign, some random tax support research on a big audit, etc. It all helps really opposed to someone like me that has only dealt in our specialty PCS group and know absolutely zero about corporate tax, or really any substantial foreign tax to be honest.

I think it’s a great program but I’m only seeing it from the outside, never been it. I just know the people that go through it tend to be better at what we do.

I recently went through the process of interviewing for a Program Manager role with Google and received positive feedback through the 4 interviews, met the team leader and a colleague I would be working with. I was one of three finalists but did not receive an offer. This process lasted four months.

The recruiter said that I was a good match to work at Google and would stay in touch. What are the chances I will hear from the recruiter? Would I go through the same process for another role?

If anyone is thinking about going on flex time, I would highly recommend it. It might not work for everyone, but my experience has been a positive one. I took a 20% pay cut along with 20% reduced hours. I am able to support my family with that income and my firm respects my limited hours, but I still need to plan to make sure I can complete tasks in my reduced hours too. Anyways, if you like what you do, but don’t like the long hours and can take a pay cut, I would do it.

I don’t think it makes me lazy to want to want to limit my work to 40-50 hours and spend the rest of my time sleeping, working out, with loved ones, etc. There’s too many wonderful things to do in life to spend 55+ hours a week year round working.
