I’m sure people have, but I feel like it’s the wrong thing to dwell on. Maybe ask for more work or ask for a meeting with a partner to talk about your concerns and how you want to be contributing more. If you’re super burned out, you might want to consider switching jobs. Easier said than done I know, but at least then you won’t feel like you’re just waiting for the axe to drop.
Of course! And FWIW, I’m a 3rd year and my hours are not where they were last year. It’s a hard year for most people, especially if you are just starting out! Try to be kind to yourself.
This basically happened to me, but the office of the firm I was at was a toxic sinking ship at that point (at least a third of the associates had left in the previous few months). Looking back, I think they were not doing well financially.
At the time I felt humiliated, but the senior associate/partner I had done most of my work for (who both bailed shortly before this) assured me that when first years get let go for “low hours” or “not a good fit” or anything that isn’t truly a massive dealbreaker, it usually has more to do with the firm or office than the associate.
Anyway, I landed on my feet and am fine. My sense is that this doesn’t happen very often, so I wouldn’t worry too much.
