Don't know the answer but I like you OP. Like with anything else I would probably start asking a local friend there to see what the RE environment is like.
Don't do it as an investment as property prices have gone up a lot in the last few years. If for vacation, go for it!!
For what purpose? Vacation home, investment, ...?

Worked with a guy (US) who bought in Romania. Something happened politically (no idea what) and he was someone unable to transfer the rental or sale money out of the country. Or so he claims. I guess I'm saying, do your homework. And make sure it includes more than FB. Good luck though. I'd be happy to come visit! 😀
