All I wanted was take a full one week off but that apparently is impossible. So I've been just saying no to new work to bill around 7 hours per day this month so I can do things in the evening what I could have done on my vacation.

I’m a new associate to a T&E group, partner goes away on vacation and leaves me with a 706 to review and sign. The family is very wealthy. Decedent married for 60 years. Partner says it’s “just a DSUE election, decedent was ill for years, no assets.” Provides no records. Not even an admission the decedent owned a toothbrush. So I looked up the decedent’s home - it’s a joint asset. Partner was “surprised”, and still insists “no other assets”. I found file references to art and antiques.

How does salary differ from hourly? I was told if I needed time to grieve I could take time off and work at night or weekends to make up. I’m on salary 🙄 was my time counted when I logged in early or took initiative to work late and on weekends before?

Coming up on my AWS loop and one thing is sticking out as a red flag - PTO. I’d be coming from uPTO with a lot of flexibility, Christmas week off, etc.. Not a sand bagger but always have operated on ‘just work and live and don’t sweat accounting for time.’ How much of a culture shock would Amazon be? With little kids, I need flexibility.
