Just did it. Though, each LOA/FMLA process may be different at our firms, so just read up on your employee handbook to learn more. My process was that I sent an email to HR with my intent to request FMLA due to my own health issues. They requested I fill out some docs and have my doctor fill out paperwork. Sent everything back in within a day, and my request was approved in 24 hours. No questions asked. Seamless process.

I did when I was at PwC. This was the process and I’m sure is similar at other companies: I called the National Leave Center and said I needed to take a leave. They provided specifics on options a available, documentation required and timing. They were super helpful! If you’re requesting paid leave (short term disability): You’ll provide a doctor in which you want the forms sent to complete the insurance documentation. Note: getting it covered under STD can be challenging depending on the reason so just be aware and make sure you have all the documentation needed in order and be aware the insurance company may reject your claim. Even if the claim is rejected though, your Leave is still valid, just not paid. No one at your company will know the details and you shouldn’t disclose them to coworkers. Your leader will only know your start and end date of the leave. I hope you take the time off you need and improve your situation! It was the best thing I could have done for myself.

Thank you both! Appreciate the words of encouragement and definitely need to take the time to bounce back to my A-game. Let’s just see if I can get the green light

Update: they threatened to fire me so no dice. Need to keep the job during this time of uncertainty. FML

I dont necessarily fit in this bucket and wished I had known the information you all have at your fingertips. I believe my picture would be totally different. I'm 60+ and will retire in the next yr. I think it is great that you all are doing well even for the perceived late starters. I started seriously saving in my early 50s. Over that time I have 2 mortgages no other debt and a nice nest egg. Curious though, how are you all going to cover medical in early retirement?

I am in a single income family with a small army of children. We have enough medical bills from chronic meds and random happenings that we just do the plans that have the smallest deductible(out of pocket) due to risk of large medical bills. Therefore I do not do the HSA because I don't have the high deductible plan. Should I rethink that? Help me think through this.

Not sure if this has been shared on here, but looks like Bonvoy is updating point redemptions to align with cash value of rooms vs seasonal peaks / hotel categories. So for example a Category 8 hotel in peak season is 100k points/night, regardless of nightly rate (let’s say it’s $2,000/night). I’m speculating you’ll see that jump to something like a 1:100 exchange so that the same hotel room in 2022 will be 200k points / night.
